pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA May 2, 2008 4-8-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to hopdog
Thick brown amber with ivory beige head with thick rings of sticky lacing. Smell is light sweet sourdough and pralines. Flavor is mild and has a hint of smoky sweet yeast in there. A good balance actually. Very drinkable. Smell and aftertaste aren’t ideal - but flavor and mouthfeel are nice. Its a toss up and I enjoyed it! Beerlando (2284), Orlando, Florida, USA May 1, 2008 Pours a cloudy dark sienna color with a dissipating, off-white head. Minimal spotty lacing noted. The aroma shows dark fruity notes, including fig and raison, accompanied by the requisite overly ripe banana scents. Caramel shows strong in the malt base, with a sweet, bready yeast, cloves and some peppery spice. The flavor is sweet and malty up front, with caramel and fermented dark fruit showing strong. Flavors transition into browned bananas and heavy clove spice. Sweet yeast is present throughout. What this brew lacks, in my opinion, the fullness that the wheat adds to the better examples of this style. The mouthfeel here is syrupy, with the alcohol quite detectable. Additional wheat would really help out the body, with more hop character serving to balance out the intense sweetness. Overall, this is a fairly enjoyable brew, but it is just too sweet and lacking in the component that really makes a Weizenbock sing for me....the wheat. pepsican (884), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA May 1, 2008 Cola brown bpour with a thin white head. Strong wheat aroma. Flavor has more wheat, light banana, clove, pickle, and yeast. Slightly sweet caramel finish, no hint of the abv. Nice. bierkoning (5989), La Tropica, Netherlands Apr 29, 2008 Bottle from Dickinsonbeer. Brown color, cloudy. Banana, clove citrus and yeast in the aroma. Caramelly banana sweet flavor, slightly alcoholic. Medium bodied. Pleasant weizenbock. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Apr 26, 2008 Acquired via trade from acrdz. THANKS MIKE!!! Oak Creek Canyon pour with red rock sediment (if you haven’t been to Sedona, might have a hard time picturing this one). Tear open a pack of Big League Chew, strip back a banana peel, and take a puff off of a menthol cigarette. This describes both the aroma and flavor. Not a favorite but glad I had a chance to try something from this brewery!!! kkearn (994), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 25, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours murky cola colored with a moderate sized tan head. Aroma of bubblegum, wheat, caramel and yeast. Taste is fairly sweet with clove, dark wheat, herbs and some hops. long, earthy finish. Nice interpretation of the style. FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA Apr 15, 2008 12oz bottle. Murky dark brown-orange with a thin film of tan head. Alefruit, caramel, fruity/bubblegum ester aroma. Rich earthy sweet malts, sugary caramel and figgy, raisiny characters. Some herbal hop notes with subdued spicy and fruity yeast components. Residual sweetness in the finish, with a strange conglomeration of estery flavors. Mouthfeel is a rich medium. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 12, 2008 Bottle. Pours a very muddy dark amber with a tan head. Aroma of sugary malts, dark fruit, and banana esters. Medium bodied but with some slight thinness in the texture. Flavor of dark wheat malts and chocolate that transitions to a clove and spice middle, which mutes some of the sweetness. Finish is yeasty- probably a bit too much when you factor in the spiciness. Not too bad, but no where near an Aventinus.
