COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To commemorate the annual German tradition of Oktoberfest, Tröegs unveils Scratch #73 – 2012, an OkTröegerFest, if you will. This rich, pumpkin-colored lager goes against the grain by boasting a fairly hefty hop presence for the style, giving the flavor a moderate bitter twist while still maintaining the classic malt character that you’ve come to expect from a traditional Fest Bier. ABV% is 5.5% and IBU is 35. BARLEY - Pils, Munich, Melanoidin, Special B The generous amounts of Pils and Munich malt add a fairly substantial body and a slightly darker coloration compared to traditional fest biers, while the Melanoidin malt enhances the aroma of the beer and beefs up the malt profile without adding too much residual sweetness. HOPS - Magnum, Tradition, Saaz Magnum hops add a crisp bitterness, while the Tradition and Saaz hops impart slight spicy and earthy notes. YEAST - House Lager Our house Lager yeast imparts the classic dry, bready finish that is indicative of the Fest style. Get your lederhosen out of the closet for this one!

Growler from the brewery. Pours a dark copper color with a slightly off-white head. Somewhat sweet aroma with some spice and hop notes. Medium bodied. Sweet and toasty flavor with heavier than average hop presence than what I am used to with Oktoberfests. Sweet and bitter with just a touch of a dry finish. Well worth a try. Good job Troegs!

Classic marzen until the finish when those 35 IBUS come through. Less sweet than several American versions of the style but level of sweetness on par with the German ones I have had. If you’re a purist you may not care for the finish. Worth a try.
