COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To commemorate the annual German tradition of Oktoberfest, Tröegs unveils Scratch #73 – 2012, an OkTröegerFest, if you will. This rich, pumpkin-colored lager goes against the grain by boasting a fairly hefty hop presence for the style, giving the flavor a moderate bitter twist while still maintaining the classic malt character that you’ve come to expect from a traditional Fest Bier. ABV% is 5.5% and IBU is 35. BARLEY - Pils, Munich, Melanoidin, Special B The generous amounts of Pils and Munich malt add a fairly substantial body and a slightly darker coloration compared to traditional fest biers, while the Melanoidin malt enhances the aroma of the beer and beefs up the malt profile without adding too much residual sweetness. HOPS - Magnum, Tradition, Saaz Magnum hops add a crisp bitterness, while the Tradition and Saaz hops impart slight spicy and earthy notes. YEAST - House Lager Our house Lager yeast imparts the classic dry, bready finish that is indicative of the Fest style. Get your lederhosen out of the closet for this one!

Pours somewhat clear amber with a smaller gray head. The aroma brings some sweet malty, bready notes, almost floral and soft in the nose. The flavor brings wheat like malty flavors and some pure yeast on a crispy body.

Location: Draft at Capital Ale-Innsbrook, 11/21/12

Aroma: The nose is fairly malty, with some caramel, nuts, earth, fruity notes, and light hops
Appearance: This one pours a golden-orange color with and tan head and some light lace
Flavor: The flavor is fairly malty, a little sweet, but not overly sweet, and with some hop notes too
Palate: The body is medium, it feels just a little metallic, it doesn’t have a great feel, but still drinks decently
Overall Impression: Overall, I thought that this one was a solid or better example of an Oktoberfest, which is a style where I generally don’t find a ton of range. This one, however, has a little range and some interesting components, and for this style, that is really saying something.

These guys never dissapoint in their scratch series brews. I always seek them out. This one was a nice fest brew worth the time and money

This one poured with half a finger of pure white head that took awhile to dissipate. It left lots of lacing on the glass. The body was a pumpkin color and clear with mild carbonation. The nose was really malty with some nuttiness and not much else. The taste was malty as well. I got caramel, bready malt, a hint of citrus hop presence and then a touch of roasted malt on the end of the sip. The mouthfeel was towards the thicker side with mild carbonation. The finish was pretty quick with roasted malts. The addition of a bit of bitter hops in this beer really did it for me. It’s sad that this is a scratch beer. I wouldn’t mind if it made it to “seasonal” status.

Sampled on draft at Mad Mex this beer poured a dark caramel color with a large foamy tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was sweet, tangy and fruity. The flavor was sweet, tangy and had a moderate yet vague mixed fruity presence. Long sweet fruity finish. Medium body. Quite enjoyable.
