COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We’re excited to announce the release Scratch #76 – Special HOPS today! Special HOPS is an Imperial Red Ale brewed especially for the HydroWorx Underwater Marathon event to be held on Sunday, September 9 to benefit The Eagle Fund. Just like the highly-trained military units used for unconventional, often high-risk missions, Special HOPS is bold, aggressive and sure to sabotage your senses and bombard your palate with hop bitterness.

nimbleprop (5211) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - OCT 17, 2012
On tap at Birch and Barley. Pours a deep amber with some cloudy white head. Nose is tropical fruit, a little bubblegum, some pine tar, lemon. Next to the DC Brau For Others, this didn’t stand up. Flavor is malty, sweet, some orange, some grapefruit. Full bodied, bitter finish. Good, but far from transcendent.

DocLock (8054) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 16, 2012
Pours hazy mahogany with frothy off-white head. Nose is heavy resiny hops, vinous fruit, tangerine. Tastes rich, astringent, resiny hoppy, with finishing tangerine, pineapple, and vinous fruit. This one is up there at, O estimate 100 IBUs, and is complex and delicious.

   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 14/20
Nickls (1887) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - OCT 16, 2012
Tap. Creamy light tan head with some big bubbles, dark coppery amber that’s mostly clear. Too much caramel on the aroma, noticeable alcohol, hops do come in: touch dank, cheesy, and musty. Flavor is soapy, some woodiness, and tea flavors. Caramel as well. Quite messy. Medium to heavier dense body. Did I get a bad sample?

callmemickey (3030) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 15, 2012
Medium amber body, moderate off-white head, streaky lacing. Nose is grapefruit, tropical fruit, and resin. Flavor is similar, but a bit more harmonious in blending the distinct hop characteristics. Light caramel malt base shines through. Medium bodied, appropriate carbonation, nice assertive bitterness throughout, nice bit in the finish.

12oz bottle in a plastic cup. Pours amber/brown with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of caramel and toasted malts plus a lot of citrusy hops. Flavor the same, with a good amount of hops to balance out the complex malt character. Average texture. A pretty good beer.

odinstyr (564) - Hamilton, New Jersey, USA - OCT 12, 2012
Pours a clear red with a 1-finger foamy tan head. Smells of grapefruit, resin, herbs, hay. Taste is bitter and mildly sweet - hoppy, citrus, spruce - with a light malt note.

JFURYCAT (1079) - East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 9, 2012
I thought clone of early nugget nectar with the hops meshing with the malty finish but my friends say it reminds them of sierra nevada hoptimum and I have to agree. Flavor profile is so similar. Nice malty backbone and I enjoy the fresh citrus hops. Another scratch beer from Troegs That I wish became a mainstay.
