Draft. Medium brown head atop cola-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, bittersweet chocolate, some roast, light earthy. Taste is moderately sweet, bittersweet/milk chocolate, roast, some earthy. Sticky medium-full body, faint alcohol burn.

Draft. Brown color, brown head. Aroma of Hershey’s and caffe macchiato. Taste is roasted coffee grounds and vanilla. Nice.

12oz bottle. Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of chocolate, roast, floral, lighter smoke, and a trace of dark fruits. Tastes of chocolate, dark fruits, licorice, roast, vanilla, and cake batter ice cream. Overall alcohol content well hidden.

Bottle. Pours opaque black with a small, frothy tan head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate and fruity esters, spices and pine hops. Flavor is malt dominant with prune notes, light hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Keg at The Pony Bar UES, NYC. Dark brown pour, fairly thick beige head. Lots of dark roast in here, good roast, dirt, earthy bitterness. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Rich dark cocoa finish, bittersweet, with further earth, burnt malts, touches of ash and baking cocoa. Decent balance, nice nuance.

Draft at Craft. Pours turbid dark jet black with khaki head. Nose is roasty black patent and choc malts, cacao, big hop. Tastes of patent and choc malts,cacao, nuts, figs, molasses, spirits. Does get hot, but is smooth and the late hops balance out the fusels. I want to see this one year round, wirth the name "Chocolate Hop Thunder."

Growler from Whole Foods Market Short Pump. Pours pitch black with a medium sized dark brown head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malts and bitter chocolate. The taste is big roasted malts, nuts, chocolate, booze. Medium-full bodied and fairly hot.

Bottle @ Matt’s house, courtesy of FooFaa. Thanks! Pours a deep brown appearance with a thin brown head. Anise, a bit smoky, chocolate, dark fruity, veggie aroma. Dark chocolate, cocoa, light coffee, veggie flavor. Really doesn’t taste quite right.

355mL thanks to yourefragile. Pours ink with thin, reddish foam. Maroon highlights. Nose is acetaldehyde/green apple, oxidized/red apple. Taste is very dry, very bitter, loads of waxy dark chocolate, herbal, minty. Palate waxy, bitter, black crayon. Good stuff, too bad the nose is off.

Nice sweetness and a touch of anise in the background. Light roast and backing milk chocolate. Bit of dark fruit as it warms. Viscous.
