3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap 6 oz. sampler at The Bistro in Old Line Wine in Beltsville, MD.
Opaque, intensely dark near black with a small khaki head and very good lacing.
Aroma of burnt grainy roasted malt, dark roasted coffee, lemon, sweet light fruit, chocolate, dark fruit and charcoal.
Taste of sweet roasted malt, lemon, chocolate, roasted grain, rye, chocolate and herbal hops.
Medium body and medium carbonation.
I love intense beers, but this one was overwhelming at the start. It has an aggressively charred flavor and aroma, which eventually mellowed a bit as the beer warmed. My score is based on the eventual mellowed result, not my initial impression.
