3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted 6/30/11. Sampled with Keir, phaleslu and others. 750ml Cork and cage bottle. Pours pitch black with a moldy khaki head. Aromas of vanilla and anise, cane sugar and maple sugar. Decent alcohol flair in the nostrils. Very full bodied with a hot dose of alcohol and a vinuous character. Subtle vanilla creaminess and the cocoa rears its head towards the finish. Tasty stuff!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled at 2011 RBWG. Pours near black with a thin beige head. The nose is roasted malt and a strange funkiness. The taste is coffee, roasted malt and light chocolate. OK.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark fruit, anise, wood, chocolate, leather, and coffee grounds. Bittersweet, a little bit of umami. Lively, smooth, full bodied, but a little thinner than expected. Black, opaque, thin tan head.

Bottle. Pours jet black with a creamy beige head. The aroma is sweet roasted with hoppy and chocolate notes. Later notes of oak and vanilla. The flavor is sweet black roasted with chocolate and oak notes. Light woody with some coffee and nutty notes. Great.

Poured a dark black color with aromas if roast, chocolate, some musk, light vanilla, light wood and some earth. Flavors followed suit with some light dryness, sold beer overall.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750ml bottle via IP trade with orangesol. Black with a frothy mocha head. Roasted malt, coffee, some "attic" musk but in a good way that seems to mellow and yet enhance and balance things at the same time, dry chocolate, smooth, some oak, hint of vanilla bean skin but not too sweet. Moderate carbonation and body, chocolate, slightly chalky with a bit of lactose, although I haven’t had it before seems to be slightly past its prime but still tasty.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from kramer. Thanks! This pours black in color; lots of carbonation, with a big tan head on top shedding thick lacing. The aroma has whiffs of molasses, leather, charred wood, dark fruit, and slight funky berry note making me think of a possible infection but that didn’t seem to be the case. Pretty tasty stuff; better than expected but the higher than normal carbonation does throw it out of whack. It’s far too prickly on the palate. I pick up mocha, plum, sweet caramel, quite a bit of oak, with a slick chocolaty finish with some campfire wood too. There’s certainly some alcohol heft here, which isn’t surprising. I wouldn’t say this was hard to drink though, it just becomes a bit of a chore the more you get into it but I’m not the biggest fan of Imperial Stouts. A good one to share, for sure. I do think this would have been much better if it wasn’t overly carbed but that wasn’t a killer either.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
750 ml C&C bottle served in a Southern Tier tulip.
A: Pours a very opaque black color with a khaki color head forming on the pour. It recedes quickly to a thin ring, but it has very lively body.
S: Creamy tootsie roll chocolate notes, almost bordering on artificial. Very roasty with some light barrel notes. Mostly oak at this point.
T: A ton more oak in the taste than the nose. The artificial nature of the chocolate from the nose is gone as well, but it’s still a very sweet malt and chocolate combination.
M: Extremely overcarbed. Very prickly on the tongue with a medium thin body.
O: The oak barrel really overtook the base and it was extremely over carbonated. Not a fan.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pour on tap at the Denver Rare Beer Tasting 2012, thick oily black pour with tan head, aroma brought nice big notes of dark fruits, anise, figs, raisin, mixing into nice dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted notes, slight hint of the bourbon and vanilla, oak comes through as well, this is nice but nothing over the top or standout. Taste is very smooth and balanced, a nice mix of dark chocolate, coffee, roast mixing into sweet vanilla, bourbon, nice dry oak, slight spice and earthy tones round it out, finishing fairly bitter. A bit thin, but overall nicely done.
