| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 5, 2010 Notes from Troegs Scratch #4, before Flying Mouflan came out. Pours a clear amber- with a thinning head. Aroma is fruity hops, mostly amarillo- mango sweetness, caramel toffee, and big malts- gets a bit catty. Toffee, molasses, big malts, nutty, sweet thick caramel malts, brown sugar, lots of fruity and citrusy hops, -fairly big overall- would probably age nicely. I think I still have some of this in the cellar. KimJohansen (7308), Copenhagen V, Denmark

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 20, 2009 Note: this is a rating for a bottle that’s almost a year old. I’ll try to re-rate when I get another bottle... and I will get another bottle!!!!! From a 22 oz into a pint glass. Pours with about a half inch of thick white head which dissipates in a couple minutes leaving no lacing. Aroma is of molasses, brown sugar and piney hops. Color is a dark copper brown; very, very good. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy, great for a barleywine. Taste is creamy, piney, slight grapefruit, brown sugar. It’s both sweet and hoppy at the same time. I really like this one. It’s powerful all around but not over the top. Surprisingly well balanced for a big beer. I’m feeling the alcohol towards the bottom of the bottle but the alcohol is not overpowering in any way. A great beer, too bad Troegs only makes it only once a year. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 20, 2009 Bomber that was held for about six months. Pours, dark amber (orangey), cloudy, nay head in a goblet. Hoppy aroma. Typical US barleywine, possibly a bit more fizz than normal for the style. Good balance here, and I found it less hoppy than Bigfoot and others (due to the aging?). Rich malts, dark fruits. Not much chocolate (contrary to what the label says), and piney hops. Simcoe are used, and yeah, there is grapefruit rind. Also some booze. i don’t like my BWs too hoppy, so aging this even for a little while helps. Very good. noncaloric (639), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 16, 2009 Pours cloudy, medium brown with a rich, sticky head. Caramel aroma with hints of butterscotch and cellar dust, and more than a hint of alcohol. Flavor is resinous: tannic, wooden, spruce or cedar. This harmonizes well with the warmth and astringency of the palate. Very nice sipper. Caramel sweetness and alcoholic bite subsumed entirely into the background. decaturstevo (2010), decatur, Tennessee, USA
