3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a reddish chestnut color with amazing clarity for the style. The head is a two finger cream shade. Retention is *very* good for an 11%’er, but it’s thin, soapy texture means it leaves no lacing on the glass. What it does leave behind are alcohol legs, and lots of them. I’m disappointed that there aren’t any dregs from the bottom of the bottle, though. Still, despite those reservations, it looks superb in a glass.
S: It’s spicy at first, with a sweetness that is reminiscent of gingerbread. After opening up, cherries start appearing on the nose. The sweet qualities help cover up the alcohol. Mostly very impressive in general, but the slight touches of medicine I pick up occasionally keep it from being a 4.
T: Immediately, I notice its sweetness on the palate. Cherry sweetness appears first before giving way to a spicy middle. Strong honey notes finish it off. There isn’t a significant booze presence; and even still, what can be tasted is properly defined and spicy, if just a tad harsh. Only two complaints here: complexity is low, and the sweetness can get overwhelming after about 2/3rds of the bottle is consumed.
M: While it’s body is somewhat thin for the style, its creamy feel makes up for it. It’s also very well carbonated and dry finishing as the style dictates. Alcohol can’t really be tasted on the palate, but it can be felt tingling the tongue and warming the orifices...and wow, does it ever warm the orifices. Despite that, it’s shockingly drinkable - only the high level of sweetness is preventing me from gulping this down.
O: As a BSDA, it’s really good but not quite my favorite of the style. As a general sweet-and-boozy monster, though, it’s excellent. About the only thing I can complain about is how sweet it is - and this problem can be solved simply by getting the 6-packs or a 12 oz single instead of a bomber.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pen & Paper Log (Jan 2011)
Aroma - is typical of the Christmas holiday brews. Aroma of alcohol, coriander, cinnamon, cherry, nutmeg, and dark fruit.
Apperance - is reddish amber color, with an off-white head. A thin white head that quickly dissipates.
Taste - the aroma and taste go hand and hand - sugary alcohol, with Christmas spices, some dark fruit and honey
Palate - body is light to medium, texture is sticky, the carbonation is lively in the mouth, and the finish full of rich and spicy alcohol.
This is big in my local area, and I’m not as jazzed about it as much as others. It’s ok, not my favorite.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours ruby with little to no head. Aromas of cherries, with a really sweet taste of cherry and honey. Mouthfeel is real sticky, sort of like cherry syrup. Love this beer, a holiday favorite!

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Clear red pour from bottle. Winter seasonal with the sweet honey, thick malt backbone. Hint of cherry, spicy twang of a finish. You do get more cherry as it warms, but it also gets sweeter, too. Extra points for hiding the alcohol...it warms without burning the mouth.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours deep amber, no head or lacing. The aroma is winter spice, cherry, and sugar. The taste shows the 11% but, this bottle is a few months old so it's a little more mellow than when it's fresh. There's sweet honey, dark cherry, and maple syrup notes too. The palate has a medium syrupy body with very light carbonation. This is a nice winter/holiday beer but doesn't live up to the hype. It's a little thin and lacks complexity.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pour is dark amber with a very small head. Aroma is lite and spicy. Flavors are all over the place and very complex. Starts out with cherry flavors but the carbonation is the thing that sticks with me all most to much. Finsh is malty, sweet and Alittle yeasty.
