COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The combination of Cherries, Honey, and Chocolate Malts delivers gentle fruits and subtle spices. Fermented and aged with a unique yeast , this ruby red beer has significant warming strength that underlies the character of this Ale.

Never really enjoyed Troegs Mad Elf, but the 2012 Mad Elf really has a nice balance of cherries, honey and spice. It was also great mixed with Troegs Dreamweaver Wheat, which was an option at Chap’s Taproom in East Norriton, PA.

Pours a very clear dark amber with little head. Aroma is cherries (but not fresh cherries but more like cherry cough syrup), yeast, cloves and alcohol. Taste is artificial cherry, some Belgian yeast, alcohol, and spice with a noticeable tartness. It is borderline syrupy. The only reason to buy this is the abv because there are much better beers in this style.

Bottle@home, from Constantino’s, Cleveland, USA. Strong aroma of cherries and other sweet berries, some honey. Ethanol aroma nicely warms the nose. Darker copper/red color with small light natural white head and clear liquid. Strong, bit messy and unbalanced taste of cherry, banana, some honey and a hint of ultra-sweet malts. Narrow/medium taste spectrum and medium aftertaste with alcohol, some berries and malts. Medium palate with medium carbonation. Overall, messy case with an elf in etiquette telling the idea behind this products. Still, nuances remind me of Schneider Aventinus, so not ultimately bad after all.

One of my all time favorite beers. I typically don’t like beers with fruity notes but this is not overpowering and just tastes great

Draft. APPEARANCE- Deepest amber color with orange/reddish hue. Super white head is gone like St. Nick on the 26th before the tulip warms enough for me to want to taste it. NOSE- Extreme malt sweetness. Slightest bit of spice. FLAVOR- alcohol is forward and pronounced. If I didn’t know it was 11%, I’d guess it was pretty high. Malty sweetness comes into play soon after the alcohol fades. NOTES- Good beer, noteworthy for its alcohol, it does not disappoint. I like the subdued spice (compared to some Xmas ale spice bombs) but for a holiday ale, it could use a little more in that dept.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, light brown, mostly/fully diminishing. Body is dark amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), lightly yeasty (basement), with notes of cherry cough syrup, grape juice, alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic. This is kinda like really boozy cherry-grape soda. A novelty beer geared to get you f’ed up, I guess.

Beautiful clear golden ale, not much head. Honey and spices on the nose. But the taste is almost shocking, thick and syrupy, like a dark brown ale.

On tap sample from HO1K. Pours a deep caramel brown with a thin off white ring. Aroma of sweet malt whiskey. Semi-sweet fruity flavor with a hint of whiskey without the burn. Fairly smooth and feels a little watered down. Hides the alcohol well. Pretty enjoyable but just a little muted on the flavors.

Draught @ Albion. Clear amber red color with small foamy beige head, caramel aroma, sweetish caramel taste with vanilla like flavor, medium carbonation, long caramel finish. Smooth but a it too sticky sweet.

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2016 Aroma of sweet honey and cherries. Cherry flavor is somewhat syrupy in flavor, honey impacts the palate more than the flavor. Mouthfeel also has a syrupy quality. Better winter beer than those spiced ales but still not amazing.
