The combination of Cherries, Honey, and Chocolate Malts delivers gentle fruits and subtle spices. Fermented and aged with a unique yeast , this ruby red beer has significant warming strength that underlies the character of this Ale.

Although Troegs claims this to be "subtle" spicing, I found it quite strong - reminds me of cloves with a cherry aftertaste. Lingering honey sweetness. Thin on the palate.

Bottle 330ml. Thanks zvsn! Clear copper with small off-white head. Cherry aroma, and more cherry, some onion notes, malty, toffee, candy, sweet and sour. Very sweet cherry flavor, as the nose, woody. Light carbonation. Full body. Sweet cherry aftertaste.

Ahh, the good ol’ Mad Elf. This was poured into the Mad Elf tulip. The appearance was a nice looking red to somewhat hazy looking purple glossed over sort of look. There was some light lacing sliding down the glass. The smell had some sweet cherries, light tart cherries, light cocoa, light honey and backed up by a light chocolate malt. The taste was sweet and somewhat spicy with a light clove-like flavoring underneath it all. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fa decent sessionable aspect trying to make me drink more but there’s a part of me knowing that this wants me to sip. The carbonation finishes somewhat dry and crisp. Overall, this was a nice beer always well worthy of coming back to during the holidays. Now if only I can get Troeg’s to distribute to Alaska.

Cloudy ruby color with no head except the pour. Toasted bread and dark red fruit aromas. Flavor is a little tart but not wild or sour. Fruit and bread leave the palate slightly sweet. Nice finish.

BA transfer - Poured from 22 oz bottle into tulip glass Appearance - A beautiful shimmering clear ruby color. A thin white head quickly fades to give a little bit of lacing which doesn’t last long. Smell - Huge amount of cherries, with a bit of chocolate, honey and other dried fruits. Can pick up the booze smell after you pull your nose from the glass. Quite nice. Taste - The sweet taste of cherries and dried fruits overwhelms initially. The alcohol taste hits in the middle and lingers with the maltiness coming in more at the tail end. Mouthfeel - Full and lush with a nice level of carbonation for this highly potent beer. Overall - A very nice beer. A new holiday favorite of mine!!

Split bottle. Beautiful pour medium amber golden, light head. Nose is smooth malt, caramel notes and deeper fruit, cherry and some berry notes. Flavor has mild alcohol presence but not too bad for 11%. Caramel and deeper sugars paired with deeper fruits, mild spicing, but not enough to make you think it’s Belgian (which I thought it was before research). Really drinkable and enjoyable, even at 11%. Nicely done.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/18/2013. Pours fairly crystal clear ruby red color with a 2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, cherry, pear, apple, fig, light banana, honey, caramel, toast, candi sugar, bread, light chocolate, light nuttiness, herbal, light clove, light bubblegum, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, pear, apple, light banana, honey, caramel, toast, light chocolate, candi sugar, bread, light nuttiness, light clove, herbal, light bubblegum, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of raisin, plum, cherry, fig, pear, apple, light banana, honey, caramel, toast, candi sugar, light chocolate, light clove, herbal, bread, light nuttiness, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity of dark/bready malt and yeast ester flavors; with a nice malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Belgian strong ale. All around good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle from who knows where. Pours a horribly murky reddish brown with almost no head. Aroma is mostly dried cherries with some vinous character and oxidation. Taste is a messy malt sweetness with a significant alcohol character that reminds me of model glue. Gets worse as you drink it. The mouthfeel is just sweet and flat and boost juice. ugh.

What you would expect, the aroma is dominated by cherries and the taste is cherry with a little honey. Pretty solid especially considering the abv.
