Commercial Description:
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

Bottle, thanks sis-in-law Kristi. Really nice deep ruby red/ brown pour, thick foamy white head. Woody, bready, malty aroma. Rich taste - malty up front, metallic like hops, watery blank finish. The first two thirds are superb, for a style I do not absolutely love mind you. Warming alcohol in very end. Body is lovely and adds to experience. A good beer just missing something to be great.

This beer is maintaining my nutritional needs just fine. Smells pretty terrible, but a good doublebock beer. The horned guy on the label may give me unplesant dreams.

Appearance is clear chestnut with almost no head or lacing. Smell is sweet caramel and chocolate, with hints of vanilla. Taste is exactly like the German chocolate cake that my grandmother used to make, it’s un-canny. Sweet caramel and chocolate throughout. Mouthfeel is slightly thin for its strength. Sweeter than your average doublebock, but nice if you like the style.

Bottle at Mondial de la biere 2009, Strasbourg. Pours a clear light brown with a diminishing off-white head. Sweet and dry. Malty aromas. Hints of residual sugars. Slightly perfumed towards the end. Dry and sweet finish.

bottle: poured into a stein. clear reddish-brown with medium white head that dissipates. Not much arouma, perhaps because its lightly carbonated. Has a great sweet caramel front, a little fruity sourness comes through and finishes with alcohol and a touch of hops. Smooth and slippery going down.

Bottle 33. Quite disappointing ale with an acid / sour taste that comes over the malt aroma, may by from melanoid malt. Deep and sweet beer, hops is less present. Neer to the classic german doppel boks.
