foundmd (163), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Mar 15, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours amber with an orange hue and a medium head. Sweet, malty aroma. Flavor of caramel, bread, and a hint of hop bitterness. Alcohol is well concealed. A nice, balanced beer. rohash (37), New York, USA Mar 15, 2009 full bodied, sweet malt character, slight hops but the alcohol taste pretty much dominates this beer. Drinakable, not great. I’ve enjoyed the other offerings from this brewery much more, just not a big fan of the style. Ron (1002), Rochester, New York, USA Mar 8, 2009 12 oz bottle, pours a clear dark copper color with little head. Aroma had some sweet caramel and some malt character. Taste was overwhelmingly sweet and malty not too bad. Average palate. Drink got better as it became warmer. halfonit (424), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA Mar 7, 2009 Has a nice hazy reddish brown color. Smells of a sweeter malt. Tastes mostly made up of malts. Has hardly any type of aftertaste. Pretty smooth brew. RHeastings (381), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 6, 2009 Enjoyed via tap and 12oz bottle. Pours an almost light brown that seems to be just a touch too light for the style. Aroma is one of Vienna and Munich malts. This doppel has a wonderful malty flavor on the palate, with just enough noble hop bitterness to keep it from being cloying. Overall, a very accessible local doppelbock. mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA Mar 1, 2009 Thanks to the good folks at Roadhouse in Brookline for this one. Beautiful brew. Nice caramel brown color and thick off-white head (almost tan). Aroma is sweet malt with a slight alcohol burn as well (though not overpowering). Flavor is balanced malt and just a nice slight touch of hops. Loved it. Wish it were more readily available up here. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Mar 1, 2009 Draught at RFD. Dark red-brown with a lasting beige head. Malty, caramel and dried fruit aroma. The flavor is dry for style with a good hop character that is not quite traditional but makes this quite balanced and drinkable. Rich caramelized malt flavors and some dried fruit and hops. Medium-full bodied. Pretty cool beer, even though it is not quite what you might expect. jb (1024), Rochester, New York, USA Feb 27, 2009 My 1st Troeg’s product, perhaps this is new to BOTW. Dark with ruby red highlights. Not much of a head, I guess alcohol plays a role. Plenty of esters in the aroma, dark fruit, rich aroma, a little bit of dough in the nose too. Palate is very good, doesn’t attack right away, it slowly grows stronger on your tongue. Cherries, bubbles, some sour character and some slight hops. Perfect balance, a great one. Am usually leary of American made doppelbocks but I believe they did this one justice.
