Commercial Description:
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

Enjoyed via tap and 12oz bottle. Pours an almost light brown that seems to be just a touch too light for the style. Aroma is one of Vienna and Munich malts. This doppel has a wonderful malty flavor on the palate, with just enough noble hop bitterness to keep it from being cloying. Overall, a very accessible local doppelbock.

Thanks to the good folks at Roadhouse in Brookline for this one. Beautiful brew. Nice caramel brown color and thick off-white head (almost tan). Aroma is sweet malt with a slight alcohol burn as well (though not overpowering). Flavor is balanced malt and just a nice slight touch of hops. Loved it. Wish it were more readily available up here.

Draught at RFD. Dark red-brown with a lasting beige head. Malty, caramel and dried fruit aroma. The flavor is dry for style with a good hop character that is not quite traditional but makes this quite balanced and drinkable. Rich caramelized malt flavors and some dried fruit and hops. Medium-full bodied. Pretty cool beer, even though it is not quite what you might expect.

My 1st Troeg’s product, perhaps this is new to BOTW. Dark with ruby red highlights. Not much of a head, I guess alcohol plays a role. Plenty of esters in the aroma, dark fruit, rich aroma, a little bit of dough in the nose too. Palate is very good, doesn’t attack right away, it slowly grows stronger on your tongue. Cherries, bubbles, some sour character and some slight hops. Perfect balance, a great one. Am usually leary of American made doppelbocks but I believe they did this one justice.

Smells kind of musty, nice malts. Taste is light in flavor, hides the alcohol well. Not bad, but not amazing.

12 oz bottle pours brownish copper and a bit cloudy. Aroma of toffee and honey. Slightly over sweet body with no real direction. I think this one is overrated as a beer. Familiarity has bread discontent.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. TTD pours ruby red and clear with a largish cream-colored head that really foams up nicely. The aroma is malty and a bit metallic. The body is medium to thin but not macro thin. The flavor is malty as expected but much more mild than anticipated. The finish is dry and a bit dusty. This is an easy to drink beer but not a great doppelbock. The alcohol is well hidden considering the other characteristics of the beer.

12 Oz. Bottle. Nice and malty. Seemed a little thin at first for a dopplebock. Flavor and aroma improved with time-out-of-bottle.
