mwelsh13 (483), Maryland, USA Feb 21, 2009 12 oz bottle pours brownish copper and a bit cloudy. Aroma of toffee and honey. Slightly over sweet body with no real direction. I think this one is overrated as a beer. Familiarity has bread discontent. MrRain (415), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Feb 19, 2009 12oz bottle poured into a shaker. TTD pours ruby red and clear with a largish cream-colored head that really foams up nicely. The aroma is malty and a bit metallic. The body is medium to thin but not macro thin. The flavor is malty as expected but much more mild than anticipated. The finish is dry and a bit dusty. This is an easy to drink beer but not a great doppelbock. The alcohol is well hidden considering the other characteristics of the beer. pauljackson1 (25), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA Feb 17, 2009 12 Oz. Bottle. Nice and malty. Seemed a little thin at first for a dopplebock. Flavor and aroma improved with time-out-of-bottle. timsilvia32 (445), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Feb 15, 2009 12 oz bottle. Orange/brown pour, with an off white head with descent retention. Malty toffee with some citrus and pine aromas. Tastes of caramel and toffee also. Solid medium body, enough carbonation to keep from being syrupy. Not too warming, the alcohol is nearly non-existant. Finishes with some malty sweetness, but fades cleanly. I think this could use some more fruits to fit with the style. A well made brew of a version that in my experience is either very good or poor with not much in the middle. This definetely falls into the good. My first from Troegs and will be seeking out more. thornecb (1735), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Feb 13, 2009 Pours bright mahogany into a stem glass. Off-white micro head leaves sheet lacing as it slowly recedes. Roasted malt aromas. Sweet full molasses full upfront with raisins and pit fruit turning to roasted nuts and a dry, warming finish. nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Feb 10, 2009 On tap at Gramercy Tavern in NYC and bottle at the Warwick in Hummelstown, PA. You have to respect the Troegenator. One of the better offerings from the boys from the ’burg. Dark amber color with a medium white head and solid lacing. Sweet malt on the aroma with some alcohol. Caramel malts with a nutty flavor and a fairly heavy mouthfeel. You can taste the alcohol warning you that it’s about to put you on the floor. sja14 (105), Ohio, USA Feb 6, 2009 Dark amber colored beer with a nice off white head. Malty and caramelly aroma with some hints of alcohol. Really malty and does a good job of masking the alcohol content with a rich sweetness. Great doppel. KEC (2), Reston, Virginia, USA does not count Feb 5, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours dark, small lacey head. Pleasant aroma. Sweet, but not too sweet. Surprisingly light and drinkable. Very enjoyable.
