mikalooch (158), , New Jersey, USA Dec 8, 2008 Bottle. Pours deep amber with a very thin head. Sugary sweet malt in the nose, almost candylike. Medium but sticky mouthfeel. Very sweet, dark fruits like cherry or plum with heavy malt, finishes a bit sour. Not bad, a decent brew, nothing too special. Will try again. Fin (3382), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Dec 5, 2008 Bottle at the Belgian Cafe, Philadelphia 18-11-08. Pours almost cherry red in colour but there is a amberness there as well in a certain light. There is quite a heavy alcohol presence that hits fast but with some thick malts. This is just too sweet and cloying for me to really enjoy. There is a stickiness, its a bit plummy and some jamminess qualities start to come through. tomthompson89 (1459), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 4, 2008 nice brownish with slight red hues, beige head that is gone quick. Big malts and alcohol, flavor is similar well hidden booze caremel nuts some hops. good beer glennmastrange (809), hobe sound, Florida, USA Nov 29, 2008 Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of cereal, nutty and milk chocolate, light resin and earth for the hops and yeast, and hints of toffee, cola and alcohol. Head is frothy, off-white with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear reddish brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic then finishes moderately sweet and lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, creamy. and has a carbonation between soft and lively. It finishes moderately astringent and alcoholic. A smooth and rich Doppelbock, but the palate finish knocked off a few points. Hophead22 (1056), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA Nov 26, 2008 22oz bottle from Swolf3. Very dark copper pour with a decent white head. Sweet light roast aroma, very nice. A little thin and watery . Decent Hank1980 (734), Athens, Georgia, USA Nov 18, 2008 Bottle from Beerman6686. Poure a dark amber with a white head. Aroma of caramel malt. Taste was pretty sweet as well. Not much other than malt here, pretty one dimensional. Mouth was medium bodied. Overall, a fair drinker. rugbydude05 (280), Kew Gardens, New York, USA Nov 2, 2008 12 oz bottle, pours a clear dark copper color with little head. Aroma wasnt too impressive but I could detect some sweet caramel and some malt character. Taste was overwhelmingly sweet and not very well balanced but overally not too bad. Average palate. Drink got better as it became warmer. hopson (591), Williamsville, New York, USA Oct 27, 2008 draft- smooth- caramel flavors and a great toffee finish- sensed the booze at first, but things evened out nicely as I continued with the beer.
