joshwilfong (771), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Oct 4, 2008 dark brown with little head. obviously strong malt tones with a lot of crystal presesnt, maybe even some chocolate. some hop balance, but nothing really stands out. a solid version of the style that is not done enough by american breweries pineypower (1077), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Sep 29, 2008 Cant’ believe I never bothered to rate this one. pours out a moderate to dark brownish color with some orange tones. Small, thin head with a caramel, dark fruit aroma. Taste is of light chocolate, caramel, toffee, slight fruit with a slightly boozy finish. Solid riversideAK (2650), Shoreline, Washington, USA Sep 29, 2008 Bottle from a forgotten source. Pours a dark auburn color with a thin non lasting head. The aroma has notes of chocolate, toffee, and ripe/over ripe dark fruits. Flavors are very similar. More chocolate an dark fruits dominate. Sweetness is medium to strong, yet it is never cloying or overpowering. Clean finish for how much is going on. A good beer in a style that is not my favorite. BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA Sep 25, 2008 Pours a dark brown, almost amber color with a tan head. Aroma is of malts, bread, raisins, and other dark fruits. Taste was very complex, with malts, fruits, and chocolate balanced out by sugars and yeast. Lingering taste of fruit. Very delicious and easily drinkable without being to complex. taalhiker (179), Dayton, Ohio, USA Sep 23, 2008 From bottle. Pours amber with low carbonation. Tan head. Aromas of sweet dark fruit and yeast. Malty brown sugar flavor with a smooth finish. Glouglouburp (2782), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 22, 2008 In short: A Doppelbock on the fruity side of things. Good but nothing special.
How: Bottle 12oz, consumed fresh a few days after purchase
The look: Cloudy redish-brown body topped by a small off-white head
In long: This is a very fruity Doppelbock. Lots of dark fruits, red fruits, any color fruits. Round and smooth body. Some barley candies and molasses. Light earthy/peat notes. Actually the whole thing ends up feeling like fruit concentrate and watery molasses. Finish brings some hops with a tobacco-like flavour, more of this would have been great. Even if very juicy the beer is actually quite heavy. No alcohol presence at all. So I see here they call this the “liquid bread”, yep, topped that with some Rogue Hazelnut and a little NG Raspberry Tart and I’ve got myself the ultimate breakfast. JohnQPublic (387), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours clear deep amber with a bit of creamy tan head. Nose is bread crust, fresh baked dark bread, toasty, bit of dark fruits in there also. Taste is toasty malt, a bit roasty with hints of cocoa in there, and caramelized brown sugar as well. Hints of dark fruits, especially on the finish. Medium bodied, not as silky as it could be, med-low carbonation. Quite good. AMN (127), Dublin, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 18, 2008 Deep brown red color with decent white head and lacing. Malts heavily present in aroma. Full bodied and satisfying.
