Commercial Description:
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

From bottle. Pours amber with low carbonation. Tan head. Aromas of sweet dark fruit and yeast. Malty brown sugar flavor with a smooth finish.

In short: A Doppelbock on the fruity side of things. Good but nothing special.
How: Bottle 12oz, consumed fresh a few days after purchase
The look: Cloudy redish-brown body topped by a small off-white head
In long: This is a very fruity Doppelbock. Lots of dark fruits, red fruits, any color fruits. Round and smooth body. Some barley candies and molasses. Light earthy/peat notes. Actually the whole thing ends up feeling like fruit concentrate and watery molasses. Finish brings some hops with a tobacco-like flavour, more of this would have been great. Even if very juicy the beer is actually quite heavy. No alcohol presence at all. So I see here they call this the “liquid bread”, yep, topped that with some Rogue Hazelnut and a little NG Raspberry Tart and I’ve got myself the ultimate breakfast.

Bottle. Pours clear deep amber with a bit of creamy tan head. Nose is bread crust, fresh baked dark bread, toasty, bit of dark fruits in there also. Taste is toasty malt, a bit roasty with hints of cocoa in there, and caramelized brown sugar as well. Hints of dark fruits, especially on the finish. Medium bodied, not as silky as it could be, med-low carbonation. Quite good.

Deep brown red color with decent white head and lacing. Malts heavily present in aroma. Full bodied and satisfying.

Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured clear brown color with an average off-white frothy head that diminished mostly lasted with good lacing. Good caramel toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Good balanced sweet toasted malt flavor with a moderate smooth balanced finish of moderate duration. Soft doppelbock.

12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Rich reddish brown with lasting ring. Aroma of wet firewood. Toasted brown sugar sweetness with complex and not necessarily pleasant underlying grainy lingering bitterness. Medium-full body and medium carbo. Pretty good, but not great. Really doen’t let the malt character come through like it should. Gets better as it warms up.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear dark amber with 2 finger beige head. Nose is dark fruits, brown sugar and alcohol. Taste is woody, ripe plums, molasses and toffee. Light-to-medium mouth feel. Not bad, a little too sweet for me though.

Bomber from Rivers Bend.
Pours brown in color with ruby highlights around the edges. Decent inch of frothy head atop the beer. Smell is slight toffee and a bit of a lager smell as well. Mouthfeel is pillowy soft and very nice. Taste is lacking a little complexity and strength. Needs more toffee/caramel and a supporting flavor. They nailed the mouthfeel though.
