mattduling (64), Fairmont, West Virginia, USA Aug 6, 2008 If you like doublebocks then you will enjoy this beer. It is very easy to drink for a beer over 8%. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 5, 2008 Bottle. Lots of sweet malt in this one, earthy, maybe a touch of coffee. Spicy, semi-bitter finish. Not a preferred style for me, but quite enjoyable nonetheless. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 5, 2008 Bottle, bottled 5/13/08. Pours a dark mahogany with a thick light tan head. Aroma of toasted malt and sweet roasted malt, faint dark fruits. Flavor is pretty similar, dark fruits, toasted malts, bread, brown sugar, molasses, and some smoke. I can’t even notice the 8%. Pretty good beer and another winner from Troegs. lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Aug 2, 2008 RateBeer Rating, Style and Glass: 85, Double Bock, mug, stein, stem
ABV, Volume & Calories: 8.2 % in 12 fl oz. estimated at 180 C
Purchased at: Circle Liquors Super Saver, Pennington, NJ for $2.25
Aroma: musky, sweet, malty. 7 out of 10.
Visuals: clear, red, off white, persistent head, some light lace. 4 out of 5.
Taste: maple syrup, crystal malt, light bitterness, medium craft. 6 out of 10.
Palate: washy, watery, quick finish. 2 out of 5.
Overall: disappointing for a double style. A generalized brown ale with a deeper finish. I would not seek it out again. It seems macro. 14 out of 20. pojo41 (315), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Aug 1, 2008 Amber to dark brown pour. Small head that didn’t last. sweet aroma of malt, brown sugar and molasses. Flavor of dark malt, molasses and chocolate. Just enough bitterness to keep from being too sweet. Good mouthfeel. Pretty easy drinking for a beer of over 8%. Very good doppelbock. BiddleBrau (303), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Jul 29, 2008 Dark with copper highlights and a tan head. Big malt aroma. In my opinion this competes well with some of the best German dopplebocks. Malty/toffee, heavy with a hop bite. Another tasty brew from the boys from Harrisburg. Underhook (162), Lincoln Park, New Jersey, USA Jul 29, 2008 Not a lot of aroma coming from this beer. Dark mahogany color with a super thick, large brown head -- delicious. Excellent mouthfeel, super creamy, fabulous texture with almost no carbonation. Taste is a malty, toasted coffee with a prune undernote. Very good doppelbock, super enjoyable, but the rating is hurt by a lack of aroma on the pour. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Jul 25, 2008 Nice aroma of caramel and malts, some earthy notes. The appearance is true to the style, a nice red/brown, off-white head. The flavor is nice, a malty, bready and caramel flavor. The finish is just malt, nothing spectacular, no hoppiness. Nice thick mouthfeel. Overall, a decent dopplebock.
