Head was off white and left a bit of lace behind. Aroma was of light brown sugar, burnt toffee, and tree bark. Medium bodied and slightly sweet with brown sugar and a touch of raw alcohol. Poured a bright brownish-orange color with a half-inch white head that dissipated fairly quickly. Great hops flavor without being too over the top. gringo332 (238), Richardson, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 21, 2008 Pretty good beer. Has more flavor I think than the hop back beer. The beer poured a dark orangish brown. It looked nice with light passing through the glass. There was about a 1/2 inch tan head that disappeared to just a wisp rather quickly. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 12, 2008 Dark brown translucent body with a pencil-thin white head... handsome and appropriate--zero tracings on glass, however... soft and malty.... sweet but not obtrusive, surprising for a double bock... a subtle, almost laid-back bock: body is light to medium, and at thie alcohol content, an achievement... mellow and savory to the taste.... malt is sweet but not overbearing... works on the middle and back of the mouth, with little hop presence... this is a tricky review... Troegenator is not domineering the way the German forefathers command, and yet, does that make it a "bad" or "weak" bock? or a successful variation on the style? overall, this beer begs a second taste... that bespeaks complexity... | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 6, 2008 Pours a dark ruby color. Minimal head, but what is there provides some good lacing.
Malty aroma. Not much there except malt. Mouth feel is very thick and chewy. Coats your mouth like cough syrup, but not in a bad way. The malt flavor is nice, but a bit sweet. Wish there was more going on. It’s almost got some flat cola properties. Not bad, but not great. EricE (456), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 6, 2008 Brown red tint with a white head. Spicy fruity aroma with cinnamon, bubble gum, and licorice. Sweet maple and honey flavor. Very complex - hints of bubble gum and blue berry. Yeasty aftertaste. Very good, but a bit too sweet for me.
