JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Feb 7, 2008 Tap at Blind Tiger. Deep amber-brown beer with a thick off-white head. Rich sweet toasty aroma. Chewy with a light caramel and sweet dark malt aroma. Excellent soft chewy palate. Well-lagered bocky malts. Clean toasted malt. Excellent balance of soft sweet maltiness, clean nuttiness and whole grain bread. A kiss of brown sugary sweetness. A very well-made doppelbock. jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA Feb 2, 2008 Have had this several times, even have the T-shirt. A very decent dopplebock, not quite on par with Celebrator, but I think this one is close in the complexity of flavors incorporated within this bottle of flavor. Very full, sweetish flavor. Enjoyable. I like this beer a lot. checkmatei1 (629), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 1, 2008 Tasting @ Capone’s: Poured a reddish amber color with a nice thick head. The aroma was that of sweetness. The flavor was sweet and as the taste wears off, a nice finish with some bitter hops. This is another great beer from Troegs, our second favorite of the evening. moseslikesbeer (183), conestoga, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 22, 2008 bottle. crack this open and smell fruity hops! little to no head but an awesome red color and lots of carbonation. first sip is very sweet and finishes bitter with a burnt taste. this stuff reminds me of TILBURG’s Ducth Brown ale but not as good. ReademNwheat (174), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 21, 2008 From a bottle. Pours a bright amber color. Malty and dark fruit aroma with some hops and alcohol coming through. Taste is initially sweet then give way to a bitter finish with alittle alcohol burn. luv2brew (177), Chesterfield, Virginia, USA Jan 18, 2008 A heavy malty nose with a head that quickly fades. Pours a deep dark brown, with a sweet candy-caramel taste. This actually has a little bitterness at the end. This one has enough body, but lacks that fine German malt character that the big boys have, but it is top notch nonetheless for an American Double Bock JCB (1716), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jan 18, 2008 Bottle at the Brickskeller, D.C. Very handsome beer, deep and copper, with modest carbo. Smells nicely sweet and nutty, and has a honey consistency that’s nice (although overall the body’s a bit too thin, I think). Modestly hopped, very flavorful. Zinister (1199), Houston, Texas, USA Jan 17, 2008 Thanks to grandet for this bottle. Pours a very clear reddish copper color with thin creamy ring around the edge. Sweet malt backbone with caramel and cinnamon and a few pitted fruits coming through. A bit of heat on the initial sip...then toasted malts and caramel come through...ending with a bit of a hoppy and fruity finish. Good mouthfeel, great beer.
