COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

Bottle sample at tasting at Beer & Beyond, Tel Aviv. Clear brownish-red with small beige head. Aroma of sweet candy, toffee, date honey, syrupy, raisin and some ripe fruits (peach, pear). Very sweet flavor, candy, syrupy, raisin, notes of wood, some brandy, very sweet sticky finish. Light carbonation, medium to full-bodied. Hard to drink.

Raison-like flavor. Reminds me of brown bread with raisons. Good alcohol flavor behind it. Needs a bit more head. Will drink again.

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head which fades to a little lacing. Aroma is of dark bread, sweet malts, caramel, tofee, bakers coco, molasses, and some light frutiness. Taste is about the same as the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and mostly sweet, medium finish. Overall, a pretty nice doublebock.

Bottle. Pours brown/dark copper, no head. Sweet malt aroma of caramel, licorice, toffee. Taste high sweet. Medium-heavy body, smooth thicker texture, sweet finish. Alcohol masked well. Pretty nice dobblebock.

Rated on 03-01-2013 at Troegs B.C. This draft beer presents a small tan head that is mostly lasting, opaque brown body and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is spice, vanilla, bready, and caramel malt. The flavor is dark fruits, bready, toffee, and malty. The mouthfeel is smooth and this beer is light-medium bodied. A quaffable dopplebock that is worth trying and a beer I would drink again.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle bottled on 09/09/14. Mahogany brown and reddish pour with tan head that eventually fades. Sweet and malt forward aroma with a hint of booze. Medium to full body. Sweet malty taste that only has a mild bitter finish. A great rendition of the style.

Pours from the bottle with a clear rosy amber. Great round sweet malty palate. Nice sweet middle. Maybe a little berry hidden in there. Great slippery mouth feel. All around tasty.

12 oz bottle, poured into a tulip glass at room temperature. A: Pours a clear russet brown, and forms a thin tan head that quickly disappears into a cap and ring. Virtually no lacing. S: Caramel toffee malt, sweet and warm, wafts out of the glass. There’s a faint musty tone underlying the malt, a bit like a horse blanket. T: Toffee malt with a side of caramel, right out the gate, with some biscuity tones along for the ride. Sweetness is definitely a hallmark of this beer - it drinks a bit like a bread pudding. I get no fruity tones or tastes to this beer, so I am uncertain if those might come out with some age. It’s a tour de sweet malt, though! The ABV stays well hidden, even through the finish, which lingers as a spot of molasses toast. M: Creamy, sticky, and full, this is definitely a doppelbock. O: Solid indeed, for a US crack at a doppelbock. It could stand a bit more fruit character to round out the flavor profile, but overall, not bad.

Draft @ Bocktown, PIT. Very dark amber color, with very little tan head. Didn’t notice any aroma, but there had to be some! Very nice malty flavor. Almost a little too sweet. medium bodied. Pretty dopplebock.
