Commercial Description:
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

From a bottle. Pours a bright amber color. Malty and dark fruit aroma with some hops and alcohol coming through. Taste is initially sweet then give way to a bitter finish with alittle alcohol burn.

A heavy malty nose with a head that quickly fades. Pours a deep dark brown, with a sweet candy-caramel taste. This actually has a little bitterness at the end. This one has enough body, but lacks that fine German malt character that the big boys have, but it is top notch nonetheless for an American Double Bock

Bottle at the Brickskeller, D.C. Very handsome beer, deep and copper, with modest carbo. Smells nicely sweet and nutty, and has a honey consistency that’s nice (although overall the body’s a bit too thin, I think). Modestly hopped, very flavorful.

Thanks to grandet for this bottle. Pours a very clear reddish copper color with thin creamy ring around the edge. Sweet malt backbone with caramel and cinnamon and a few pitted fruits coming through. A bit of heat on the initial sip...then toasted malts and caramel come through...ending with a bit of a hoppy and fruity finish. Good mouthfeel, great beer.

Pours a clear copper color with a decent tan head. Nice sweet aroma of caramel and toasted malt with a little bit of hops. Tastes of sweet toasted malt, caramel, and a touch of hops and fruit. Hops get stronger on the finish and are joined by a bit of alcohol. Had this on tap and in a bottle and both are good.

12 oz. bottle via trade with MrBendo - Pours a clear reddish copper color with a 3/4 finger thick light tan head. Faint spotty lacing. Aroma is bready malt and herbal hops. Flavor is lightly sweetened toasted malt. Palate has a good hop bit. Medium body. A good beer. Thanks Todd.

Great effort from troegs. Pours dark clear amber with a fleeting head. mostly sweet, sour malts and alcohol in the nose. body is sweet malt, touch of soy sauce, a bit of fruit and hop on the end. Alcohol is well-hidden, seems a bit soft to me. Doesn’t linger quite like the great doppelbocks.
