zethca (62), West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 5, 2007 Updated: Nov 6, 2007Bottle. Pours thick golden reddish ruby. Flavors of malt and fruit. Thick mouth feel. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Nov 3, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Clear deep amber with a medium, but sturdy, off white head . Strong caramel malt aroma, some peppery spice, and even a little fruitiness. Medium body, smooth, rich mouthfeel. Although the sweet malt flavors dominate, sufficient balance comes in at the finish. kreepindeth (405), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA Oct 31, 2007 Pours dark ruby color. Aroma of malt, cookies, dough. Flavors of chocolate bread sweet lightly roasted grains. Finish was clean and malty. blindeyedbetty (148), Arlington, Virginia, USA Oct 28, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Poured a dark cherrywood color with tight off white head that quickly dissipated, leaving uniform lacing. Aroma of bread and malt, heavy and sweet. Medium bodied beer, which is easy to drink, which may not be a good thing given the ABV. Bready front palate, easing into a dark fruity mid palate and finishing with sweet, roasty grain taste. Lovely for colder days and when wanting something a bit sweet without overkill. bp (451), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 26, 2007 Bottle: reddish brown with a thin white head, aroma reminds me of banana bread, flavor is sweet and malty, very nice brew, if it wasn’t printed on the bottle I’d never have a clue that this was an 8%+ ABV. I’d certainly buy this again if I was in the mood for something a bit sweet. pforei (338), USA Oct 26, 2007 Amber-cola color. Dark bread malty aroma with alcohol in the nose as well. Sweet, malty, alcohol and off flavor sourness. Thin body that doesn’t support the alcohol. Maybe my bottle was too old. Will have to try again. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA Oct 24, 2007 Poursa deep reddish amber with a small off-white head that fades quickly into a thin film. Nice big fruity alcohol nose. Flavor is big and malty, slightly toasted with a touch of oak, brandy and candied sugar. Subtle bittersweet finish. Nice. NachlamSie (1630), Tennessee, USA Oct 22, 2007 Bottle born on August 27, ’07 from Tronraner. Pours a mahogany with just a tiny tan head. The nose is readily identifiable as a bock with an apply sweetness and a doughy quality. I generally prefer my dopplebocks to have more in the way of vinous or spiced qualities, this one is more about the sweet malts. The flavor is medium sweet with a gummy quality, cooked veggies, and caramel -apples. The finish hints at dryness with a baking chocolate flavor. I pick up some suggestions of cherries which reminds me of Robitussin. I started out in the dopplebock category with Celebrator and since then haven’t been really impressed with the style since. I will probably be leaning away from bocks even more so in the future.
