johnadam2002 (529), Hainesport, New Jersey, USA Sep 18, 2007 Poured murky brown that trnasformed in a dark amber. Nice fluffy white head to go along. Aroma of sweet malt and some fruit. Good thick malt flavor with some fruit hints in the finish. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 7, 2007 Pours a nice deep red hued brown with a tanner head that stays around for a short bit. Nose is Like wet woodwith some sugar mixed in. Nice, full, and robust. Flavor is mildly sugar with a smooth wood tone. A thinner molasses seems to kick in on the back end. Good liquid body and a smooth and silky carbonation. Extremely drinkable, even with a higher ABV. Another damn good brew from Troegs.
after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Sep 6, 2007 12-oz. Thanks, FrnaksnBeans! Pours a crystal clear dark brown with no head or lace to speak of after a minute or two. Sweaty, footy nose. Bits of nitrogen and cola nut there too. Medium, slightly oily body, fairly still. That combo of sweat, foot, nitro, and cola comes back around for the mid-palate. Not bad, not great. Still, I’ve been curious about this beer for ages, so it’s very cool that Jacob read my mind and bonused this to me. Sweet! nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 5, 2007 355 ml. Dark copper-brown with a small head that tries to last. Burnt caramel nose. Flavor is dryish caramel, spicy pecan, and alcohol. Not real deep, but nice balance. Smooth and medium-bodied, with a warming alcohol and dryish finish. IrishBoy (2686), Bakersfield, California, USA Sep 1, 2007 12 oz bottle from puzzl; nose of cramel, dates, and sweetness; red colorwith a small beige head; flavor has some fig newton and caramel with some sweetness and alcohol in the lingering finish. Warms me up well when it’s 108 outside. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 04/09/2003

Naven (864), Poway, California, USA Aug 22, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep, dark amber color. Aroma is chocolate malts, soy sauce and caramel. Flavor is pure malt. In a good way, though. There is a salty, soy sauce-like flavor that I can’t get past. The alcohol is well hidden. A slight smokiness is present on the finish. Pretty good beer, but something I could only drink occasionally. Goodgrief (1147), Middletown, Delaware, USA Aug 15, 2007 For an affordable ($7-$8 for a sixer) doppelbock, this isn’t bad. Pouredruby red with some yellow/copper undertones. Not huge head. The taste was sweet...really sweet...maybe too sweet. It got better as it warmed (surprisingly didn’t get sweeter). I’d go to this again, only because I don’t really know many other affordable dbocks. For a treat, though, I’ll stick with Ayinger.
