Commercial Description:
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

12 oz bottle from puzzl; nose of cramel, dates, and sweetness; red colorwith a small beige head; flavor has some fig newton and caramel with some sweetness and alcohol in the lingering finish. Warms me up well when it’s 108 outside.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep, dark amber color. Aroma is chocolate malts, soy sauce and caramel. Flavor is pure malt. In a good way, though. There is a salty, soy sauce-like flavor that I can’t get past. The alcohol is well hidden. A slight smokiness is present on the finish. Pretty good beer, but something I could only drink occasionally.

For an affordable ($7-$8 for a sixer) doppelbock, this isn’t bad. Pouredruby red with some yellow/copper undertones. Not huge head. The taste was sweet...really sweet...maybe too sweet. It got better as it warmed (surprisingly didn’t get sweeter). I’d go to this again, only because I don’t really know many other affordable dbocks. For a treat, though, I’ll stick with Ayinger.

12oz bottle. Pours dark amber, with a moderate-sized khaki head. Sweet, malty, caramel aroma, with notes of soda and rye. Caramel malt flavor, with some notes of dried fruit, toffee, and some hops. fairly full bodied. Nice doppelbock.

Bottle from Mike. Dark amber with medium head. Sweet malt aroma is pretty subdued; a bit of sweet dark fruit. Taste is pretty refreshing for an 8.2% beer; alcohol is very mellow. Not too sweet in the taste; very nicely balanced. I really enjoyed this brew. Booya.
