Commercial Description:
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

Tasted 7/14/07. 12oz bottle. Filtered with a garnet hue. Quickly dissipating head, leaving a moldy bone white appearance. Citrus and raisin aromas. Vanilla, cookies and a touch musty. Compared to the previous Dopplebock, Capital Autumnal Fire, this one is more lively and drier. Bigger effervescence. Dry but with nice toasty malts. More bready malts. Grainy with a sweet cereal flavor. Bigger beer. More bitter but less alcohol prevalence. Bigger and sharper, but not necessarily better. Bigger palate, but not as well blended. Still nice but preferred the former.

Pineapple and dates on the nose. Brown color, thick tan head. Sour taste of roasted malt and traces of yeast and molasses which isn’t altogether unpleasant. Cabbage finish, again, tastefully done. Alcohol content is well hidden. Unique and fairly good.

Wow, I had six of these, which was a bad idea. I got shitfaced and wow, it was great! Great malty flavor. Commercial description is great and right on the nose. Guess why it’s a commercial description.

aroma is of honey, earth and malt powder. flavor reminds me of raisin bread or a sticky holiday fruit cake. it’s sweet and malty with a creamy mouth feel. nice light hoppy tea like finish.

Pours a light amber color with a small head and tiny lacing. The scent is carmel, raisins and malt. The flavor is malt, with some sweetness. The palate was a little weak and the mouthfeel was too thin for me. Not bad overall, but I would have liked a bit more complexity in the finish.

12oz bottle. Dark brown pour with a small head. Raison and alcohol all around. alittle hops toward the end. Pretty good beer for the money

Bottle at Firewaters in Atlantic City. This brew pours a dark brownish-amber color with a thin off-white head that dissipates fairly fast. Spotty lacing throughout. Roasted malt aroma with hints of alcohol and raisins. Medium, smooth body with sweet malt and caramel flavors, accompanied by notes of hops here and there. The finish is on the sweet side with caramel and malt, followed by touches of hops and a bit of burning alcohol. Above average Doppelbock for my money.
