Commercial Description:
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

This is a hell of a good double bock from a fine brewer. Aroma is yeasty, bready. Ruby colored pour with an off white head....tons of lacing. Well balanced nutty and fruity malts. No hop aftertaste, but I don’t really expect it from this style.

Bottle. Pours a translucent deep amber with an off white head. Aroma of brown sugary malts and raisens. Medium light and fizzy mouthfeel. Initial flavor of raisens, maple, pumperknickel bread, and sugary caramel that transitions to a medium hop bitterness that carries through to the finish. Alcohol comes out on the finish and warms the windpipe. This is not bad at all. However, I think bottle conditioning and a little less filtering could take this one to the next level (not to sound like certain ratebeerians)

12 oz. bottle. Poured a deep amber with a small brownish white head. The aroma was very sweet. Nice mouthfeel. Sweet drinkable beer, not great but pretty good.

First Troegs i have ever tasted. my mouth enjoyed it. Poured a dark amber color with one finger head. very sweet flavor, very smooth... i hooked up with a hot italian brunette and afterwards i pacified her. Thankyou monastic brewers for brewing an extra strong doppelbock.

Pours a deep red amber, clear with almost no head. The nose is big and sweet. Big caramel malt, some alcohol and a bit of toastiness. some light floral to spicy hops. Full, but a little bit fizzy in the mouth, good viscosity. Really big and sweet and creamy in the mouth. Caramel is huge. Alcohol is noticable. Light floral hops. Butterscotch. Finish is very creamy, buttery, and sweet. Aftertaste is a bit sweet and cloying, but balanced by the alcohol and residual floral hops. Perhaps a better beer than I gave it credit for being, but not bad.

Bottle, Malty aroma, sweet flavor. Alcohol is evident, but a good drinkable beer.

Bottle. A amber beer with a tan head. Sweet caramel malty, rye bread aroma and taste. Medium body with a sweet dry finish. A ok Doppelbock, but not great.

The beer had a dark brown hazy color. The taste was carmel, malt, bread, some yeast, and kind of nut flavor at the finish. The taste of the beer is ok, and the body was medium/creamy. I also found this to be a little overly-sweet which seemed to make the beer "heavier" to me. Although the flavor was good, it was hard for me to finish because of this perceived heaviness.
