bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Oct 23, 2006 On draught from the brewer, from the Floyd Fandango. Pours deep chestnut with a 2-finger head and nice lace. The aroma is slightly sweet and nutty, with a hint of sugar and possibly some chocolate. The flavors are slightly sweet, richly malted and backed with a decently hopped bitter property. It’s nice and full-bodied, with a dark bitter chocolate finish that lingers appropriately. Overall, it’s chewy and seemingly well-put together; however, there is an "airy" consistency throughout the pull that made it slightly less than the "bigger" dopplebock I’d have expected. MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 22, 2006 Draft ! Sampled with Stegosaurus and Beerded one at Newtown Beerfest. Reddish brown pour with a little head. Aroma of malty and caramel. Flavor of a slight spice and caramel. Nothing to complex but not bad. A decent DOPPLE. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Oct 16, 2006 dark amber/brown body with small beige head...aroma of sugary, caramel malts, with a slight toasted finish...flavor is of extreme sugar and fruit, and finishes with alcohol...average palate Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 15, 2006 Pour is clear amber with a thin tan head...smell is slightly caramel and sweet...watery mouthfeel...some sweetness in the flavor, but thin... vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Oct 14, 2006 Picked this up at a quaint little shop in Virginia on a road trip. Pours dark bronze with a moderately sized tan head. The aroma has subdued toffee, spice, caramel malt and some dough. Medium body that seems light for the style. The carbonation is farily sharp. The taste starts a little watery with more spice than expected and some caramel malt. The finish has a richer taste with more toffee and also some spicy hops. Nice interesting doppel. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 7, 2006 Updated: Jul 11, 2008I’ve been waitin a while to taste something from Troegs. Actually I’ve been patiently anticipating the dream wheat or the mad elf ale. I saw this for $2 a bottle so I thought I’d give it a try. I’ve been avoiding this one because I thought it had a personna of the horned devil on the front. However, upon closer inspection, it is some kind of cross between an old bearded muscleman and one of those rams that smash heads up on a mountain. Initial flavor is good but the finish has a slight amount of bitter hops that lasts for a while after swallowing. Pretty good stuff. Not yer typical pale yellow american beer and extremely better than an IPA or dry stout. It hides the alchohol content rather well. BückDich (4785), McCall, Idaho, USA Oct 3, 2006 Bottle drank at the Brickskeller during RBSG 06 DC Weekend
Amber color, nice muddy head, nice lacing. Nose of vegetal hops and light caramelly malts. The flavor is sweet and chewy, nutty. Nice body. The finish is chewy. Nice. melvin980 (184), Pennsylvania, USA Oct 1, 2006 Updated: Dec 29, 2006I dont know. It was alright. Nothing special, I wouldn’t buy a case of it, or doubtfully a six pack of it again if there is anyt options. Maybe not my style of beer
