melvin980 (184), Pennsylvania, USA Oct 1, 2006 Updated: Dec 29, 2006I dont know. It was alright. Nothing special, I wouldn’t buy a case of it, or doubtfully a six pack of it again if there is anyt options. Maybe not my style of beer Silphium (2117), Haslett, Michigan, USA Sep 29, 2006 Bottle thanks to xproudfoot. Essentially clear orange-brown body, thin/medium cream head. Aroma of heavy toasts, brown sugar, and burnt notes; sweet. Interesting medicinal quality to the flavor, too light and sweet, also characterized by candy corn and toast, finishing with warming alcohol. I found the body too thin to carry the alcohol. However, this wasn’t half bad. notalush (2628), Denver, Colorado, USA Sep 27, 2006 Dark copper pour with impressive white lace - rather light, bready aroma, with some caramel and fruity esters, mostly of cherry - a bit thin-bodied and lacking the malt complexity one would expect from this style - a little honey sweetness and a light spicy quality - decent, but not something I’d seek out again. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA Sep 24, 2006 On tap at Max’s in Baltimore...Dark coppery-red body, with a small frothy head. The aroma is mild and malty, bready filled with yeast and a honeyed-sweetness. The flavor is also very malty, and chewy. The flavor is a little bit too thin, but its still a good, easy-to-drink beer. SlowandLow (6), Connecticut, USA does not count Sep 17, 2006 In the Bottled version this was a rather decent example of the style if not a smaller one. The alcohol comes through in the nose as well as a bready Munich malt note. Wonderful color, the flavor was pleasent enough, not to complex though which is usual for this style. A rather light version on the palate but not bad at all! nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 13, 2006 The aroma is a little weak for the style, with caramel, toasted malt, cardboard, alcohol, and vanilla. The appearance is mahogany with a small head. The flavor is very nice. It has lots of caramel and nuts with light bitter finish. The palate is chewy. All I can say is wow; it’s a lot better than I expected. LooseCannon (914), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Sep 12, 2006 Updated: Sep 13, 2006Dark Body with off white head. A decent doppelbock. A better doppelbock is Ayinger Celebrator. bigrond (1043), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 10, 2006 this brew was smooth and sweet - it almost had a fruity flavor. It was very good. dark brown body and warm rich feel. this is a great winter beer.
