lukin013 (211), Columbia, Maryland, USA Jul 27, 2006 Pours a reddish brown with a foamy tan head. Little to no carbonation. Sweet aroma of caramel and raisins. Tastes of caramel malts and molasses with a spicy finish. Could use a bigger body. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Jul 26, 2006 Bottle, Brickskeller. Medium dark brown color. Rich and sweet nose containing currants, cherries, nutmeg, with a slight alcohol nose along with a dominat maple scent. Toasted honey flavors, moderately thick texture, sweet, herbal flavors. Some dogfood smells though, and chewy at times, biscuity, sweet maple and brown sugar. A tasty beer but not the prototypical doppelbock. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 13, 2006 Updated: Jul 29, 2007A bit too Sweet for my taste, but not a bad D-Bock. Available throughout Philly area. I think the $11.50 I paid for a sixer is a bit excessive though.......... FlySwatter (34), USA Jul 11, 2006 Roasty caramel aroma. Fruity malty flavor that competes with the alcohol to its detriment. JFURYCAT (782), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 5, 2006 At first I thought I detected staleness but it was more the bittersweet mollasse-like flavor which smacks me of raisons, caramel malts and dates in a somewhat medium texture. The alcohol isn’t well hidden and it seems to float like a liquer in this meld of flavors. Aurelius (2643), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 30, 2006 Lousy label, glowing ruby orange beer, big head. Tart, boozy raisiny aroma. Sweet, woody, medium raisin fruitiness, immediately identifiable as a bock. Slightly metallic, finishes off with a bitter, dark dried fruitiness reminiscent of dates, prunes, etc. This is becoming one of my least favorite styles, as I age, but this is a decent example. Thanks to PorterPounder for the trade. theacelatrain (262), Washington DC, USA Jun 27, 2006 Bottle. Pours vibrant brownish red with quickly dissipating off-white head. Sweet, malty aroma of gingerbread cookies, fruity chocolate, and berries (or sangria, with a note of alcohol). Flavor like fruitcake or rum cake: somewhat fruity but mostly basic sugars, malts and alcohol. In both nose and flavors, alcohol overpowers and masks too much. Good and pretty complex, but I’m ruined by Ayinger Celebrator - a fruity doppelbock seems strange to me. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Jun 16, 2006 Dark brown in color, thick head that goes away quick. Taste is sweet and bitter with alcohol at first. That subsides and leaves way with a nice rich dopple bock. Slightly under rated in my opinion. Easy drinking and refreshing, but its no aventinus. Nice one though!
