Commercial Description:
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

Ok, this is no Ayinger, but it was enjoyable. Perhaps a bit too sweet and lacking in thickness (mouthfeel), this one still had a nice flavor. Was bready malty and the alcohol was hard to pick up at 8%. In between the pale and dark doppelbocks out there. Fairly priced for the quality.

Nice beer. Pours a brown body with a reddish tint. Medium biege head, diminshing but had left a little ring and some good lacing. Sweet, dark fruity, brown sugar aroma. Sweet, cherry flavor with some good molasses notes. Warming but thinner finish. Very enjoyable beer.

(Draft @ Brew At The Zoo, Baltimore, 5/27/06) Dark honey brown body. Biscuit-colored head retreats to edges. Aroma of brown sugar, molasses and raisins. Good lacing. Smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is moderately sweet and malty with some bitterness overlaying. Flavor good but without much depth. Felt and tasted "young".

Attractively dark, malty aroma, and carmelly sweet in flavor offset with nice bitterness. Well carbonated but pours with a short lived head. Good lacing remains clinging to the glass. Pleaseant moderately long lasting finish

Bottled. Clear, medium-brown color with a small, frothy, off-white, mostly and quickly diminishing head. The aroma was malty with a moderate note of roasted grain, light note of hoppy herb; moderate note of sherry, light note of vanilla and trace notes of spicy alchs and cola. The flavor was moderately sweet, moderately acidic and lightly bitter with a long, lightly bittersweet, lightly acidic finish. The body was medium, the texture was velvety and the carbonation was lively. Moderate alcoholic warmth in the finish.

Bottle. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is medium brown. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel, molasses), with note of plum. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, trace/lightly acidic, trace bitterness. Finish is moderately sweet, trace/lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Medium to full body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Pleasant, straightforward.
