WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 7, 2005 Updated: Sep 23, 2008What a sorry excuse for a doppel. Not more than a single. OK ... maybe a 1.25. Light brown and clear with a small head ... a see through version of a Celebrator. Thin in the mouth ... too thin for a doppel. Taste is OK for a beer ... a little coffee, a little dark roasted malt ... but a doppel? A beer you can eat? Liquid bread for Lent? I don’t think so! An ok beer, but not even a parody of a doppel. // OK ... tried it again. Not a parody, merely a poor, thin copy. Sort of a 1.4 bock. SB (317), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 5, 2005 From Bottle
Poured dark, small white head. Aroma malty. Flavor of nuts, malts, caramel and bread. This is my first doppelback, so I was surprised. Medium body, easy to drink, a little bitter as it warmed. Arris (8), Pittsburgh, USA does not count Nov 22, 2005 Bottle. I haven’t had very many dopllebocks so this was a nice surprise. The color is a beautiful dark clear orange/crimson. After a rather thick pour, there is a small white head. There are many tastes that can be found: malt, grapes, caramel, nuts and pepper. I think there is a little apple also. A pleasing beer that I plan on getting again soon. adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 16, 2005 Pours a brown orange amber color with a tiny fading white head. Aroma is malty with hints of dark fruit and grapes. Taste is malty with hints of sourbread dough, rasins and figs. Not bad. dondk (28), leetsdale, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 15, 2005 Poured a deep red with a creamy off-white head that left a huge amount of lace. Sweet aroma with caramel and even some chocolate in the nose. Not a huge fan of this style. Definate kick on the first taste. TrevorFloyd (309), Connecticut, USA Nov 13, 2005 Strong malty body, made me think of caramel, this one deserves a try. However, its not nearly as red as it looks in the picture here, so don’t let that throw you off. BeerLimey (1873), California, USA Nov 10, 2005 Clear reddish brown, good head formation. Rich, malty, dark fruit, burnt alcohol aroma. Sweet bready malt flavor, burnt raisins, slightly charred dryish finish. Alcohol evident but fairly easy drinking. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 6, 2005 Updated: Dec 3, 2005Delicious grapey, full, spring leaves & twigs. Chewy nuts & raisins. Lots of fizzy grape, not bitter at all, smooth, slightly sweet.
