Commercial Description:
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

Bottle courtesy of Zathrus13: Pours a brilliant ruby red with a thin tannish head. Smells of bananas, grapes, scotch, some sugar. Tastes peppery with some decent lemony notes but mostly nuts. Mouthfeel is a bit astringent. Finish is nutty with a light peppery finish.

Pours a bright orange/red with a thin head and sticky lacing. There Is malt, and earth in the nose with notes of brown sugar, apple, and bubblegum. It has a nice earthy hop bitterness to balance nice malt profile. Very nice beer.

Dark clear amber pour with puffy white head chillin on top. Nose is of yeast, caramel, malts, some banana hidden in there along with toffee. Flavor is simlar, a little lackluster, but seems like a nice dopplebock.

A really good doppelbock. It finishes dry, not sweet....something I really like. This is not a heavy, suffocating doppelbock.

12 oz bottle via trade with Lou18 - Thanks Lou! Pours dark amber with a short offwhite head that stays decently and laces. Aroma is big malt. Caramel, a bit of chocolate. Flavor is very much the same.. Big caramel malts, a touch of chocolate and a hint of yeast. Finishes with some bitter german hops. Palate is full bodied and delightfully creamy. This is a very nice Doppel.. I enjoyed it..

12 oz bottle. Bottled 9/28/05. Poured a deep red with a creamy off-white head that left a huge amount of lace. Sweet aroma with caramel and even some chocolate in the nose. Very malty with noticeable banana ester flavor. Considerable amount of alcohol present for only 8.2% ABV. Not a huge fan of this style.

Pours a dark amber color with some red. The head is large and off white, very nice appearence. Aroma is very light but has some wheat and some fruits. Flavor is a little bitter at first but quickly goes to some bitterness. You can definitly taste wheat and some fruits. The finish is dry that makes you want to drink more. Very nice.

Aroma caramely, sweet, smooth, and not that strong. Flavour, much of the same. It’s hard to say whether it’s the beer or the style that I object to, but I feel like this one’s missing something. It does taste too sweet, and it oddly is too thin too. The flavour lacks complexity. I think the combination of sweetness, lack of bitterness, and high alcohol content makes this one rather undesireable for me. To its credit, I don’t taste the alcohol. The problem is, I don’t taste enough of anything else.
