jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Oct 7, 2005 12 oz bottle-pours a creamy tan/light brown head. Hazy deep orange/amber color. Aroma-puts off a lot of aroma. Sweet, sharp (fruity syrup smell) possibly from plums or apricots, malty. Taste follows the aroma with the malt becoming a nutty malt. Seems like oak barreled. OK carbonation. Occasional, not to my taste but, nicely done. Date stamp on bottle was partially legible, approx 10/04. Other 6 packs in this store went back to ’03. ryan (1774), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Oct 6, 2005 Updated: Oct 12, 2005Pours dark amber with a short lasting white head. Aroma is sweet, cookie dough, bready. Flavor is cookie dough, caramel, honey, raisons and plums. Texture is thick and chewy. Does a good job of hiding the 8.2% alcohol. pobenohne (504), Northern Liberties, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 27, 2005 Draft at Sippin by the River ’05. Another beer that I have been meaning to rate: nice example of the style, but nothing over the top. Compararble to many other dbs that are out there. walter (359), Staunton, Virginia, USA Sep 25, 2005 Bottle. Deep amber color with big white head. Aromas mostly of sweet caramel malt and bread dough, the sweetness verging on dark fruit. Flavor is not as sweet as aroma implies, very bready with a surprisingly clean finish for all its alcohol and sweetness. Not my favorite style, but this is a well crafted brew. SmellGood (313), Memphis, Tennessee, USA Sep 23, 2005 Too sweet for my taste but that is doppelbock. Nice sweet malty taste with OK aftertaste. Not my style but would buy again. walleye (876), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Sep 1, 2005 from the bottle. poured a dark amber with a with a off white head. not at all what I expected fr a doublebock. aroma, malts, a maple syrup and molasses, caramel, plums. flavor the malts take the lead on this one than got some sweetness , caramel, honey, and dark fruits Pringles68 (28), Audubon, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 29, 2005 ohh wow, this was really nice. smooth, sweet but not fruity and not bitter. i’ll definately buy this again.
