May 20, 2009 12oz bottle from Kevin. Pours a lightish red (to light for the style imo). Nose is bready malt and caramel with some odd spice. Flavor is very sweet malty with some hops to balance. Nutty and caramel flavors and some spices I can’t place. Not bad. Lacking the distinctive german yeast complexity the better doppels have. But this is a very good american effort.

May 17, 2009 From bottle. Simple aroma of fruit and malt. Quite bitter. Mahogany colour with a thin white lace. Silky texture. Slightly spiced malt flavour. Warming nutty ale with a tangy finish.

May 15, 2009 Pours a dark brownish amber color with a small, foamy beige colored head that quickly settles to a thin film. The aroma shows dark fruit, sweet chewy caramel, roast, and some earthy hops. The flavor follows with more dark fruit, raisins and figs all dipped in caramel, but balance out by some roasted cocoa and earthy hops. Medium bodied with balanced carbonation with a warming finish from the alcohol. Tasty little dopplebock.

May 15, 2009 Thanks Brigadier. This pours a beautiful clear amber with a large creamy beige head, good retention, lacing. Strong caramel aroma, hints of alcohol, citrus, oxidation. Thick, full palate, very substantial, carbonation doesn’t play much role on the palate. Flavor is built around caramel and vegetables, and the latter doesn’t do it for me. Has good warmth and hop brightness, but the overwhelmed by the cooked vegetal element.

May 3, 2009 Pours dark brown with some red. Aroma is weak, some roasted malt. Flavor is roasted malt, and lots of dark fruit - prunes, raisins, cherries. Really smooth palate. Very nice.

May 3, 2009 Dark in color with an off white head. Aroma is bready, some yeast, dark fruit, plum, fig, brown sugar and rich malts. Taste has some mellow hops to balance out the alcohol and sweetness. Some light spice and resiny fruits. Very good.
