COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

Drank from the bottle as my weather-watchin’ beer this evening, and damn was this creamy! I’ve been sitting on it for a while, probably an ’09 or ’10 vintage, and never bothered to get into the six pack until now for some strange reason. Malty forward sweetness with some hints of dark fruit and molasses, very creamy... like the mouthfeel stands out more than anything else. Very tame with just a minor alcohol booziness on the back end, but unfortunately a bit past it’s prime. A bit of the... what is that... cardboard through the middle from over-aging. Aha! Found the bottle date: 09/23/10. Happy to have and drink, will definitely have to pick up a fresh batch to compare down the road.

Yes please! Poured from a can! Big sudsy head, uneven dark amber color. Decent lacing but not over the top. Butterscotch aroma, can really smell the hard liquor taste that’s coming. Biting on the swallow, but delicious, creamy, good ABV.

12oz bottle from Brewmaster’s in Wilson. Dark brown-reddish hue (when put up to light). Fully diminishing head, no lacing. Dark fruit, booze, dark malt aromas. Sweet dark fruit up front with with more of a malt and light spice finish.

Have been meaning to try a Tröegs beer, so was glad to spot the Troegenator at a Remke market here in Cincinnati, Ohio. I brought home a single 12-ounce bottle and poured it into a goblet. Pours a translucent, dark warm brown, with a small, off-white head. Sweet aroma of molasses and caramel. Flavors are very nice: quite sweet, bready and malty, with some underlying spice and really sweet, juicy fruit notes. This beer has a very pleasant texture, feeling a little bit thick, with an above-medium body; but it still feels quite drinkable. I dig it!

Bottle sample at tasting at Beer & Beyond, Tel Aviv. Clear brownish-red with small beige head. Aroma of sweet candy, toffee, date honey, syrupy, raisin and some ripe fruits (peach, pear). Very sweet flavor, candy, syrupy, raisin, notes of wood, some brandy, very sweet sticky finish. Light carbonation, medium to full-bodied. Hard to drink.

Raison-like flavor. Reminds me of brown bread with raisons. Good alcohol flavor behind it. Needs a bit more head. Will drink again.

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head which fades to a little lacing. Aroma is of dark bread, sweet malts, caramel, tofee, bakers coco, molasses, and some light frutiness. Taste is about the same as the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and mostly sweet, medium finish. Overall, a pretty nice doublebock.
