3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A really good doppelbock. It finishes dry, not sweet....something I really like. This is not a heavy, suffocating doppelbock.

3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JAN 30, 2008 Poured deep red-mahogany with very thin head that rapidly dissipated. Dark fruit and light malt aroma. Very sweet, malty flavor. Seems a bit on the thin side. Easy to drink but with some alcohol burn. Nice but lacks the pizzaz of other Troegs beers.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a clear reddish brown/rusty color with an off white head that settles down into a minimal covering. Fairly active carbination. Aroma is of carmel & a little vanilla. Flavor is a bready maltiness, with more hints of caramel and vanilla. Little to no hops present in the flavor, this is NOT a brew for you hopheads out there. Sweetness is cut by a hint of alcohol, but it’s well hidden for a beer listed at 8.2% abv. Medium body & texture. Has a fairly clean, slightly bitter finish. Overall, one of my favorite beers, it turned me into a Doppel lover!!

2.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: FEB 20, 2010 Dark cranberry red pour from 12 oz bottle. Thin head, nice lacing. Carmel notes dominate somewhat one dimensional taste, almost kettle caramelized.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Light citrus & caramel aroma, minimal tan head, beautiful dark amber pour, nicely sweet and sticky palate. Possibly not my favorite, but still worth a six-pack.

Good satisfying beer. I love the name. Beer has a nutty, yeasty malt flavor. Some caramel flavor.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2011 Thanks to my buddy who brought one of these back from his vacation back east! Drank this one slightly below room temperature. Smells amazing, some of the typical doppelbock scents - toffee, molasses, and brown sugar. Malt monster! Pours a dark amber with a quickly dissipating off white foam head. Tastes as amazing as it smells. All of the above scents are there, but with the addition of a delicious plum/fig flavor and a subtle earthiness on the finish. Theres also a nice subtle cherry flavor. Good stuff. Thick, chewy, and coats the mouth. OVerall this is one of the best doppelbocks I have had. Definitely recommended.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours like a cocacola. Same color with light to medium carbonation. Smells of burnt caramel and grapes. Ver light on the palate and goes down very easy. Tastes as fruity as it smells with little bitterness. Well done.

Very nice bock, big flavor. I would market this as a seasonal; has holiday spices galore, pretty tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
