COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

Troegenator starts with a rich malty aroma with hints of caramel. A clear reddish amber with a tan head that sticks with the glass. Big yeasty bread tastes and linger roasted malts, perhaps a hint of vanilla or wood. Full body with creamy texture and soft, tiny carbonation that still has enough gas to make you "Urp." Some hoppish bitterness much later on the finish. fyi: the bottle image and beer colour appearing here are not representative of my last 2 years with this beer.

12 oz bottle pours to a copper color. Strong malty aroma with nuts and caramel. Taste is sweet and full body. Very drinkable and with a 8.2% ABV kick. I definitely liked this one. Another good beer from Troegs.

This is a very sweet and malty beer with hints of cherry and caramel. Lots of booze and borderline syrup but surprisingly drinkable. No lacing, odd color. Definitely not a classic dopplebock, nor a great one. But good nonetheless.

Bottle. Poured a warm amber-brown color with minimal head. Great sweet aroma that follows through in the taste. Malt flavor really comes through for bit of extra sweetness up front and then a nice, warm finish.

In a word: Delicious. An excellent doppelbock: sure it’s a bit sweet, but again, it’s a doppelbock.

Aroma is rather subtle for the odd flavor. Flavor is someone odd and almost wood-like but rich and robust. Aftertaste is a little dissappointing; almost seems like it leaves a bitter film embedded on the back of your tongue.

The beer had a dark brown hazy color. The taste was carmel, malt, bread, some yeast, and kind of nut flavor at the finish. The taste of the beer is ok, and the body was medium/creamy. I also found this to be a little overly-sweet which seemed to make the beer "heavier" to me. Although the flavor was good, it was hard for me to finish because of this perceived heaviness.

Pours amber red, head disappears quickly. On the heavy side with a sweet roasted caramel flavor. Better for colder days, a bit heavy for my taste.

If you like doublebocks then you will enjoy this beer. It is very easy to drink for a beer over 8%.

Bottle from zathrus13. Reddish amber colored with light beige foam that stickes to the glass. Interesting malty aroma with caramel and bready notes. Toasted and roasted flavors with some bitterness but somewhat it is lacking maltiness as I am use to in dopplebocks. This beer start strong but leave you on your appetite. I am little disapointed with its flavors. Thanks Jeff!
