3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours vibrant brownish red with quickly dissipating off-white head. Sweet, malty aroma of gingerbread cookies, fruity chocolate, and berries (or sangria, with a note of alcohol). Flavor like fruitcake or rum cake: somewhat fruity but mostly basic sugars, malts and alcohol. In both nose and flavors, alcohol overpowers and masks too much. Good and pretty complex, but I’m ruined by Ayinger Celebrator - a fruity doppelbock seems strange to me.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz bottle with a BB date of 2/2017.
Pours with a beautiful, clear copper v=colored body topped by a durable beige head. Sheets of lacing upon tipping the glass.
I often find beers of this style to be too sweet or too hot (boozy) -- this excellent version has neither of these flaws. The mouthfeel is essentially perfect to boot.
Overall: excellent, world-class version of the style

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Troegenator has a thick, beige head, a hazy, caramel color, bubbles, and heavy lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of strong, slightly fruity, brown bread malts, and the taste is of intense, strong bread crust, heavy malt flavor, some syrup, plum, figs, and dates. Fairly strong hop bitterness shows up, too. Mouthfeel is syrupy and rather heavy, and Troegenator falls between wet and dry. RJT

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ahh a doppelbock so delicious it literally refreshes my memory of when I first discovered this style. From the bottle pours an excellent amber mohagany color, generous white head and lacing, clearly and shimmery, beautiful. Aroma of licorice caramel malt, reminiscent of sweet bourbon whiskey, and tart red fruit. Lots of hearty caramel malt in the flavor, boozy bitterness but not in an abrasive way, subtle notes of chocolate, and amaretto perhaps? Overall an excellent rendition of the style, medium bodied and easy on the palate. Well done Troeg!

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep red pour med tan head. Smells of very lightly of yeast and fruit. Tastes thick and solid of fruit jam notes and bready. Coats the tongue. I can’t decide if I love it or hate it.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Flight shared with ebone1988 at the brewery. The pour is a brown orange color with almost no head. The aroma is sweet and malty as a dopplebock should be. There is a pretty hefty fruitiness in there that doesn’t belong. Light booze on the back end. Flavor is sweet malt water with a fruitiness on the back end. There is a strange bitter that’s hanging out on the back end that I don’t care for. The mouth feel is thin and watery. No carbonation helps this as it jumps off of the tongue and finishes with a lightly metallic malt. Damn book.
