For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

A good beer. An interesting aroma but promising flavor. It goes down smoothly and provides a crisp finish. Good overall but nothing spectacular.

Poured from a 330ml bottle, aroma is rich malt with lots of dark fruit, raisins and plums, taste is lucious silk malt flavor. Raisins and plums and crusty bread flavor. Silky mouth feel, medium body medium carbonation. Delicious beer right up there with ayinger captivator.

Bottle from BOTW. Rich malty nose, caramel, bread, chocolate, cinnamon, brown sugar, raisins. Orange brown, clear, fine low head. Fruity and malty, fudge, dried fruits, some stone fruit, treacle. Slightly too sweet, but has a bittering, dry finish.

UPDATED: SEP 10, 2014 Can: Rich chestnut & ruby tinted body with good clarity; largely porous, gray-beige head is settled to a thin collar in just moments. CaraMunich malt aroma with a light staleness to it. Toasted bread, faint toffee, slight anise, & some deeper notes of plums & figs. Large toasted bread flavor, a hint of spiciness that almost seems like rye. Caramel, sweet malt, stale toffee, light plum, & a slightly medicinal, herbal finish. Only a small kiss of earthy hops. Decent.

16oz can from Pinnochio’s. Pours a deep, reddish brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma is malty, coffee, toffee, nutty. Medium on the palate with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, caramel, some bread, nutty, a little chocolate, toffee, raisin, just a touch of hop bitterness, with a sweet, caramel finish. Tasty.

Appearance- light tan bubbly head (like a mocha latte). Dissipated quickly and minimal lacing. Fairly dark, mahogany, amber, copper. Smell- clean, malty, sweet, fruit (raisins), spices. Sherry-like. Very pleasant. Taste- reminded me of a scotch ale. Sweet, malty, caramel. Mouthfeel- light to medium body. Creamy. Well balanced. Overall- a very nice beer. A good effort by a great brewery at a Dopplebock. Most impressed by the evenly balanced mouthfeel given the various aromas and tastes happening in this brew. Would have again and definitely recommend. Cheers!

A fantastic doublebock, my favorite offering from Troegs. Beautiful reddish brown - call it mahogany, dark amber, whatever, it’s pretty. Light tan or beige head, creamy and medium-bodied. Packs a nice ABV punch. Mildly sweet with molasses and caramel overtones. Pleasant long finish.
