COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber with a thin light tan head no lacing. Aroma is malty and nutty which translates to the tongue in a dry,, nutty malt doppelbock. Some sweetness evident, but fairly bland and grainy in character. A bit light and crisp for a doppel. Lacks the richness and depth that defines a good doppelbock.

Poured a copper with minimal head. Taste was fairly simple and soapy. A little bit of malt sweetness helped save a beer that would have been otherwise underwhelming. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

355ml bottle. Raisin brown colour, hazy, moderate off white head. Aroma is powerfully figgy. Raisins, prunes, figs, lots of dried fruit and sweetness. Kind of like a fruit cake, but good. Clean finish. Smooth for the strength. Overall, surprisingly drinkable.

Pours a ridiculously good looking crimson-garnet with a khaki-toffee head that settles to a ring leaving little bits of lace here and there. Complex nose involves molasses, toast, spicy hops, a savory worcestershire/brown mustard note, grapes and prunes, a touch of smoke, and some alcohol vapors. Taste is quite sweet but fairly well balanced with bitterness, maybe even a dash tart. Fuller bodied, syrupy, sticky, fairly actively carbed, with a warm, toasty bitter finish. A deep and rewarding brew with plenty of good stuff going on.

Drank from the bottle as my weather-watchin’ beer this evening, and damn was this creamy! I’ve been sitting on it for a while, probably an ’09 or ’10 vintage, and never bothered to get into the six pack until now for some strange reason. Malty forward sweetness with some hints of dark fruit and molasses, very creamy... like the mouthfeel stands out more than anything else. Very tame with just a minor alcohol booziness on the back end, but unfortunately a bit past it’s prime. A bit of the... what is that... cardboard through the middle from over-aging. Aha! Found the bottle date: 09/23/10. Happy to have and drink, will definitely have to pick up a fresh batch to compare down the road.

Not as good as I remembered from years past. Kind of Carmely sweet. Very nice pour. Pretty sweet aroma. It’s pretty smooth w/ some hop bitterness on the finish. Decent.
