COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber with a thin light tan head no lacing. Aroma is malty and nutty which translates to the tongue in a dry,, nutty malt doppelbock. Some sweetness evident, but fairly bland and grainy in character. A bit light and crisp for a doppel. Lacks the richness and depth that defines a good doppelbock.

Bottle. Drank this at Heather’s house on Saturday 2/6/16. Deep brown pour medium off-white head with decent retention. Nose is big malts, raisins, toast, caramel. Mouth is medium-full, decent sweetness, crusty pumpernickel toast, nutty, caramel, chewy. Not bad, but I’ve had better. And the fact they drifted from the German name for the style on the label irritated a couple shades of fuck out if me (especially in a beer from a state that loves to boast about their German heritage.... and fuck the Nittany Lions BTW).

Tall can from Cork 57. Nose is malty, sweet, caramel, spicy. Taste is dark brown sugar, caramel, malts, fruits. Smooth, creamy texture. Sweet finish. Pretty good. Quite alcy and warming.

Poured from a can. Pours a clear medium dark mahogany with a large off-white head of foam. Semi-sweet toffee aroma. Minimal carbonation. Light to medium texture. Very smooth. Flavors of caramel and toffee. Not too sweet and they don’t last very long. Smooth finish. Flavors could have been bolder. OK but not great.

Troeganator is a special brew. It pours a beautiful dark amber color with a nice small head. I don't detect much by way of scent, which is odd, but this beer is smooth from start to finish. Really, really clean.

Pours a crystal clear dark ruby color with minimal head. Smells like raisins, caramel and brown sugar. Tastes follows the nose but is a little less sweet than I expected from the aroma. The finish is dry and slightly bitter Medium bodied with low carbonation.

Big smells or caramel nut aromas. Deep reddish brown with things tan ring and partial cover of head. Chewy sweet nutty flavor. Stain your mouth with lasting sweet earth grain aftertaste.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Leary’s, Newburyport, MA. Aroma is bready malt with caramel, red wine. Appearance is clear red with nice sparkle, small 1/2 finger-width head with poor retention and trace lacing. Taste is rich sweet malts with caramel, vanilla. Palate is full bodied with thick texture, average carbonation and malty finish with just a splash of bitterness and mild warmth in the esophagus and stomach. Overall, good representative of the style and very good.

Found 5 his bottle in the back of my fridge from a spring time trip south. Cloudy brown pour. Bready malty notes with a touch of brown sugar and some florality as well. Somewhat sweet tasting as warming to the palate but lingering finish. Very good beer.
