COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

Pours a nice dark amber color with a medium head that dispates quickly leaving little lacing. Nice malty aroma with a slight sweetness. Very malty flavor with a fruity sweetness and caramel and a little bit of hops bitterness, but very little. A delicious beer worth trying no matter what kind of beer you like.

Excellent aroma full of plums. No hops noticeable on the nose. The appearance is a dark amber brown with an off white head with good head retention. The beer is crystal clear. Flavor wise, it's super malty with lots of melanoidin complexities. Hop flavor is minimal per style. Alcohol warmth is noticeable but smooth in character. The mouthfeel is full and smooth like a milk shake. Overall, it's one of my favorite Dopplebocks. Malty and smooth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

It tastes just as it smells. Pure maltiness in both aroma and flavor. As with the hops, though, there is only a slight bitterness and no aroma. It smells and tastes like the malts used for brewing beer.

I sampled a bottle of this at "Bagpipes" pub in Cincinnati, Ohio - It poured dark with a light tan head of foam and was tastey.... I like it.

Aroma is bread and strong malts. The flavor is mildly sweet malts, a hint of dark fruit and a mildly alcoholic finish.

Bready and sweet aroma. Non clinging aftertaste. Slight heat like a generic cough syrup. I know these are weird descrips, but it’s funny what one person’s taste and smell are to another. Anyhow, my first Troegs Bros. and I will pursue them further....not in a romantic way...you know what I mean. Very good D Bock!

In a word: Delicious. An excellent doppelbock: sure it’s a bit sweet, but again, it’s a doppelbock.

Quite simply, this brew is delicious in all the ways a beer can be judged. Pricey, but worth every cent.
