Nose is slight, not as strong as expected, a bit of maltiness. Flavor is chewy, plenty of caramel, but not as malty as expected. Hops are a mite harsh, noticeable, but the balance seems off. Body is reasonably creamy, but nothing phenomenal. It's the first release of this, so maybe it'll get refined in the future. Good, but tastes as if it needs a bit more polishing before it's actually ready. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA

Pours dark bronze with a moderately sized tan head. The aroma has subdued toffee, spice, caramel malt and some dough. Medium body that seems light for the style. The carbonation is farily sharp. The taste starts a little watery with more spice than expected and some caramel malt. The finish has a richer taste with more toffee and also some spicy hops. Nice interesting doppel. Very malty and semi-sweet - pecans in praline with almonds and lightly dusted with cocoa. Alcohol is not overly intrusive. Could’ve been thicker. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA

Rich, chewy malts are sweet and somewhat caramelly. This is a big Doppelbock, with firey hints of cigar tobacco and alcohol. Dry and grainy at the finish, leaving a sweet and gritty aftertaste. Slightly rough around the edges, a clean, firey beer! TheOrange (421), Kent, Ohio, USA

The pour is a nice dark amber, the head is a small ring of bubbles lacing the top of the glass. The aroma is citrusy malts. The flavor is true to the aroma, the hops a touch more flowers than in the aroma. A very enjoyable beer. Rib Eye (143), USA

This doppel defines craftmanship. Excellent balance of strong malt and hop flavors with a slight smoke taste. Not my fave style or fave brew from Troegs, but really, really well done. Like all Troegs, it's not pasteurized so the clean, fresh, bready flavors really shine through. TheBeerGod (3177), Newport News, Virginia, USA

The taste expands on those and adds a hint of cinnamon and brown sugar. Surprisingly good as I didn't expect much from this. AmEricanbrew (2006), Almost, Texas, USA
