does not count SlowandLow (6), Connecticut, USA Sep 17, 2006 In the Bottled version this was a rather decent example of the style if not a smaller one. The alcohol comes through in the nose as well as a bready Munich malt note. Wonderful color, the flavor was pleasent enough, not to complex though which is usual for this style. A rather light version on the palate but not bad at all!
Parrothead (169), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 5, 2009 On tap. A deep ruby color. Decent head, nose of sweet malt. Smooth brew, sweet up front balanced by some hops, alcohol in back. O good doppelbock. watson1977 (30), , Pennsylvania, USA Jan 4, 2009 deep amber color with minimal head...i expected a darker color for the style. very malty and sweet...very malty flavor with hints of caramel, toffee, and bread but i expected more robust flavor with some chocolate and spice for the style. very stringent or medicinal as well. maybe a bad or an old bottle but i expected more from an otherwise reputable brewery. santoslhalper (311), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 3, 2009 This beer is a go to for me. Smooth, creamy and delicious with lots of robust flavors. Chocolate, caramel, coffee, toffee, bread and spice to name a few. Malty goodness. jimmay (47), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jan 2, 2009 12 oz bottle from Premier Gourmet. Pours dark copper colour, good sized head, leaving some nice lacing. Flavour is a little sweet, and malty. Fine cabonation. llcooldave (212), San Antonio, Texas, USA Dec 30, 2008 Coppery in color with a thick frothy head. Sweet grain notes along with toasty malt makes for an great aroma. I feel like I am smelling fresh dark wheat bread. Very similar flavor as with the aroma. Sweet bread and grain flavors mixed in with the malty taste. Overall it’s nice to have one or two but it definitely is not a session beer.
