COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
They took a batch of Troegenator wort and fermented it with a peppery yeast (one of the two yeast strains in Mad Elf) to create a more complex, spicier Troegenator. At a bold 9% abv, this beer is "liquid bread" for sure, and maybe a Christmas cookie as well.

Tried this as scratch #24, the beer poured dark brown with little head. The aroma was sweet, spicy with fruity raisin notes. The flavor was sweet with raisin and fruity notes and a hint of caramel. The beer was mostly dry on the palate. Overall a solid beer that is big and flavorful.

Poured a brownish maple color with a small and sticky off white head and light lacing on the glass. Aroma of banana, yeast, and dark fruits. Sweet candy sugar taste, fruity, yeasty, some maple syrup as well. Nice full and round mouthfeel.

How the heck did I not rate this one yet? Good thing I kept my notes from the cooperstown fest. Apparently they wont make this beer anymore and it was just for that fest. Similar to the troegenator, deep amber almost brown color hazy with a good head. Aroma is very yeasty, somewhat spicy and very estery/fruity. Plum and dates with an additional sweetness coming from the added fermentation and higher abv. Good smooth finish. Never woudl have guessed this to be 9%. Great beer.

Bottle. Scratch 24. Dark Amber with medium head... sweet fruity/spicy aroma... sweet malty notes, banana with complex spice... similar to the mad elf but not lighter and without the honey

20101011 I don’t know what the heck I had on tap at Max’s today. The menu said Scratch #34, Abbey Dubbel, but neither RB nor Troegs website list any #34 at all. However, there is a #24 which IS a dubbel and aliases to this beer. I’ll just drop the rating here, which is good enough for me since I’ll not likely ever come across any of these again. Hazy dark amber with sticky khaki head. Aroma is full of standard dubbel yeast and dried fruit notes. Flavor is nicely attenuated and not at all derogatorily sweet. Really nicely done dubbel that could best many of the Belgian standby beers

Draft at CAH Troeg’s event. Pours ruby w 1f ow head and some haze, at first glance appearing at least as ruby and trbid as Mad Elf. Nose is perfumy florals, fruit, hopcitrus, spicy yeasty esters, cherry. Tastes on the dry side, yeasty, spicy, with vinous fruit and cherry notes.
