COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Black Bise is back, except that the animal was adapted to better IMPRINT in the range of the brewery. High fermentation black, with a mixture of special malts calibrated to give it body, roundness and needed a winter beer presence, without falling into the bland. It as 7.2%, so caution. This beer is brewed from September to March.

Dark brown appearance...thin looking in the pour. Very light carbonation. Toasted barley aroma, beef stew, carrots, onions, potatoes. Taste is caramel, and more of the beef/barley flavors from the aroma. Label says imperial stout, and while I can feel the alcohol in the "imperial", its too thin to be called a stout in my book. Maybe something was lost in translation.

Pours a dark, near-black brown with a huge loose head - waaay over-carbonated! Aroma of prunes, iron, light funk, kind of sickly sweet. Light coffee flavour, sweet malt, metallic hop finish. Thin, watery body and over-carbonated. It got better as it warmed, and might taste better a bit stronger or with more body.

Serving: 330 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. it pours a light cola color. It took a somewhat aggressive pour to get a small, light tan head. The nose is unusual. Prune, chocolate, a slight vegetal note I can’t quite place (cooked carrots maybe?). There is a lot going on spice wise, almost reminding me of a Christmas candle. The light chocolate notes come through, but barely. Calling this an imperial stout as the label does is a misnomer. Really thin for a stout (much less for an Impy). Oily, filmy mouthfeel that I don’t really care for. This one didn’t blow me away.

330 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with full tan head. Aromas of cocoa powder, heavily roasted malt, raisins, and copper piping. Flavors of roasted malts, light chocolate, light cooked vegetables, and tobacco. Lighter body than I expected. A tad thin and metallic.

33 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 07.05.2011
Aroma has very roasted malt, some fruity notes and spices. Flavour is somewhat sour with too roasted malt, some fruity notes and herbs. Sour and too roasted – that combination just doesn’t work. Feels actually like a Belgian stout.

Dark pour with a creamy tan head. Aroma is bakers chocolate, dates, brown sugar. Medium bodied, creamy mouth feel. Flavour is cocoa, dates, coffee, a little lactic. A tad thin. Borders on the lines of a milk or sweet stout. Okay.

(33cl bottle) Day2 of the 2012 Advent Calendar. Pours a medium beige head atop a black body. Nose of sherry, red licorice and cocoa powder. Very sharp, sour front with a grainy yeast mid-palate. Not sweet and totally different aroma from flavour. Hides the 7.2% ABV exceptionally well. Good. --- reviewed on RateBeer.com

Day 2 of Craft Beer Advent Calendar. I can’t say I particularly enjoyed this beer. I am glad that I tried it, but can’t see myself drinking it again.

Advent Calendar #2. Hm quite sour, like sucking on a few lemon seeds. Aroma has some chocolate in it, too. Lots of carb when hitting the mouth, maybe the sourness is making it seem more extreme. Hm there seems to be some dry overlay but overall the finish seems quite sweet&sour a la lemon juice. Worried about this being headache inducing. Different for its chocolate/lemon qualities. Not a "dark wit" (???) as I was expecting. Nice to try but I definitely would not like another. Hm.
