COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Black Bise is back, except that the animal was adapted to better IMPRINT in the range of the brewery. High fermentation black, with a mixture of special malts calibrated to give it body, roundness and needed a winter beer presence, without falling into the bland. It as 7.2%, so caution. This beer is brewed from September to March.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with average, frothy beige head; short retention and spare lacing. Aroma is dark fruit, alcohol, vanilla, cookie malt, and light floral hops. Flavor is mostly spice and vegetable, average malt, and not much else; semi-sweet finish. Light/medium body, medium carbonation, and low warmth.

DuffMan (7815) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 2, 2012
Bottle, Dec 2 Beer Advent Calendar. Dark brown pour, with a light brown head that initially soars, but fades rather quickly to a thin ring without any lacing. Aroma is more sour than anything, but not harshly so, with some burnt malt hanging around the edge of awareness. Light dusty cocoa in here too. Some spice on the deep inhale. Didn’t know what to expect, but it wasn’t this-- more interesting than I anticipated. Palate maintains the sourish identity, with light flavours of raisins and leather, roast takes a back seat. Light is the operative adjective here-- for a beer that boasts an ABV exceeding 7%, the body is woefully thin, edging on watery. Lightly bitter finish.

Visual: Pours dark brown with a slight purple hue, small & lasting very creamy head, a bit of lacing, a decent layer of retention, lots and lots of active streams. Nose: light roasted brown sugar malts, hints of chocolate and coffee. (lvl-6)-pungency Attack: crisp, incoming acidity Mid-palate: unexpected sourness, (lvl-4)-sweetness, (MAIN) cola, light roasted bitter malts, lemon-grapefruit citrus acidic-sourness Finish: soft bitter hops mixed with lingering malty bittersweet sourness. Summary: Decent flavour but I just can’t fall in love with such a sour stout.

Embrouille (2831) - SWITZERLAND - JUL 29, 2010
Bottled 33cl. Very interesting nose which has plenty of character: Reminiscent of orange, sangria, grapefruit, caramel and condensed milk. I definitely prefer the nose to the taste. Long complex finish where some caramel, licorice and butter shows up. Not entirely cohesive in my opinion.

Bottle from City Beer. Pours black with a thin beige head and an herbal aroma. There is a sweetish dark malt flavor with a strange vegetable taste and dry bitter finish. Not very pleasant.

Bottled, thanks Bov! Clear dark brown, coarse head. Dryish with clean mouthfeel and medium body. Salt, tobacco and licorice spritzed out by slight fruity yestyness in the Belgian stout fashion. Growing bitter finish.
