COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Black Bise is back, except that the animal was adapted to better IMPRINT in the range of the brewery. High fermentation black, with a mixture of special malts calibrated to give it body, roundness and needed a winter beer presence, without falling into the bland. It as 7.2%, so caution. This beer is brewed from September to March.

33 cl. bottle. Description on their website says this beer is in the style of the Schwarzbiers of Germany’s Black Forest. However, I find it to be more like a Baltic Porter. Anyway, nice head. Dark brown almost black color. Aroma of light hops and burnt malt. Taste is sweeter with a nice balance between chocolate/dark burnt malt and hops. Very drinkable, good beer.

C’est une stout correcte. Elle passe bien mais on peut trouver des stouts anglaises aussi bien et a de meilleurs prix. Cela reste une bonne bière.

Bottle: Pours a lighter than expected brown and despite my best efforts produced no more than a tiny ring of brown head. The nose is light and airy, slightly sweet. Vanilla and cocoa with faint roast. A little bit of spice in the taste, but I can’t pinpoint anything. Modest roast and light floral bitters.

Pitch black with brown/beige foam. Roasty, chocolate coffee nose. This beer is more cold coffee than beer. The taste is dry, the carbonation is moderately and quite decent. The taste is slightly oily/creamy and almost dusty, like small powder particles were in there. The roasted malts result in a beverage you can use to counter the caffeine rush from your good night coffee without changing the taste. I don’t like coffee, so for me this is an agreeable version of carbonated water infused with 2 or 3 filled coffee filter. Better than suspected, worse than hoped, more or less as expected.

Fast schwarz, kaum Schaum.

330ml bottle poured in a chalice. Nice Trois Dames specimen but I was expecting a bit more from an Imperial Stout. A: Deep caramel color with a medium bubbled beige head when poured. Reasonable retention. Dissipates leaving some lacings around. A thin beige layer remains for some time S: Sweet and sour (bit orange acid). Roasted malts and plums. Spicy end T: Sweet upfront. Roasted malts. Plums. Fresh hops. A bit sour. Nice bitterness M: Medium body and carbonation. No alcohol D: Good [ BA Review @ 8/10/2010 ]

Visual: Pours dark brown with a slight purple hue, small & lasting very creamy head, a bit of lacing, a decent layer of retention, lots and lots of active streams. Nose: light roasted brown sugar malts, hints of chocolate and coffee. (lvl-6)-pungency Attack: crisp, incoming acidity Mid-palate: unexpected sourness, (lvl-4)-sweetness, (MAIN) cola, light roasted bitter malts, lemon-grapefruit citrus acidic-sourness Finish: soft bitter hops mixed with lingering malty bittersweet sourness. Summary: Decent flavour but I just can’t fall in love with such a sour stout.

Bottle, at Baran. An almost black one, topped by a dense, dark beige head leaving curtains. Dried fruits, roasted malts, nuts and a touch of chocolate in the aroma. It’s full-bodied and semi-dry on the palate, with a nice carbonation level. Dried fruits and some chocolate in the flavor, roasted, and a bit sweet, with a medium length finish. A decent one, but a bit boring I think. 140906

330 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate, nuts and dark fruit. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, liquorice, dark fruit, dark chocolate and nuts with a bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation.
