Visual: (cellared for 3 years). Pours ultra dark brown with a superfine micro layer of head, cascading waves of micro streams all around.

Nose: sweet medium roast nutty coffee, chocolate barley malt. (lvl-7)-pungency

Attack: sustained bright coffee acidic sour

Mid-palate: cold brew-like coffee fruity, (lvl-5-sweetness), light roasted barley malt

Finish: root beer/cola malty, dark chocolate, coffee exhale, residual roasty bittersweet

Summary: This is a cool espresso stout - not at all what you might expect. Predominately bright with fruity coffee acidity, the roasted dark notes take a back seat in this surprisingly easy 7.2%. Great stuff.

Dark brown coloured body with absolutely no head at all, a few small bubbles and some slightly opaque notes at the bottom. Aroma of alcohol, roasted malt, hops (hard to believe), vanilla, grain, oak and some soy sauce and savoury notes. Light-bodied; Sharp pungent malt and soy sauce notes with Worcestershire sauce, grain, oak, vanilla and some light alcohol notes, but not effervescence or complexity. Aftertaste is very roasty, dark, pungent with alcohol and coffee noticeable, some light chocolate and deep vanilla and oak flavours. Overall, not a good beer, which definitely did not age well or hold onto anything worthwhile - pretty disappointing, especially after saving it for so long. Definitely worth passing over, especially if you can pack up something else in your suitcase and carry over across the pond. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Drinks of the World in Bern, Switzerland on 08-November-2009 sampled at home in Washington nearly SEVEN years later on 26-August-2016.

Bottle at home from notes. Pours dark brown in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, dark chocolate, black coffee, roasted bitterness, earth, seems a bit thin even for a stout, decent.

(bottle) deepest brown in colour with a frothy beige head. aroma of freshly ground coffee, milk chocolate and sugar icing, with a very light hint of paint thinner, some walnuts and roasted malts. flavour is mostly coffee, toasted malts and milk chocolte, with some more brown sugar and a slightly chalky semi-dry finish. medium- to heavy-bodied with lively carbonation.

From a bottle into a pint glass. Smells of chocolate toasts and malty goodness. Pours a dark opaque brown with a massive brown head. Tastes of burnt toast, coffee and chalk that blend very nicely. Rich fizzy mouthfeel. Lingering lightly astringent finish. Super well balanced stout.

La première impression est que j’ai la sensation de boire mon café pérouvien, au matin. Robe et mousse classique pour une stout. Elle a une légère touche houblonnée et une forte touche de café. Elle est intéressante et bonne.

A lot of coffee in the nose. Much less in the taste. In general a very subtile stout, that is a bit watery. Nice but nothing special.

Dark brown color with small beige head, very wet foam. Plain espresso aroma, very light feeling not heavy. At a bit higher tempetature, there’s more milk coffee aroma. Taste is mostly espresso, roasted malts, moderate bitter finish. Also more milk at higher temperatures Light body and watery mouthfeel, low carbonation. A bit of a tartness. Unfortunately not very complex, but a solid brew, exactly what the name is: an espresso stout.

@ collab-brew with Unser Bier, Basel. Espresso aroma, when warming to its drinking temp some Caro-Kaffee-aromas and even some milk showing up. Taste is almost plain espresso, aftertaste as well. Could be more complex. Nice thing that the abv doesn’t really show.
