COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Palanfrina is the fall seasonal and is brewed from September to December. The chestnuts arrive with first chilly days in autumn. Palanfrina brewed with chestnuts is a beer that warms the spirit. Palanfrina is a full-bodied beer with a tawny color and with an intense nose. The use of only regional chestnuts gives the beer a local flavor. Palanfrina is great with pungent cheeses and makes an optimal companion for chocolate desserts.

750 ml bottle at BCTC 2009. Pours a hazy deep woody brown and a foamy head- diminishing. Aroma is toasted malts, chestnut earthiness, light chocolate, roast, light burnt malts, and fruity esters- raisin, plum, lychee. Flavor is earthy, light roast, nutty chocolate, chestnuts, pine, mint, and a slight bit too acrid and harsh- eh.

14th September 2008. Cloudy brown beer. Reminds me, just a little, of a sourish porter. A little roasty. Sour and dry but also has a vague sweet note in the mid. Okay but this was a beer to drink slowly!

Bottle at Cole’s Italian Beer Tasting: Amber color with a thin, almost non-existant head. Sweet caramels, light cocoa, some nuttiness. Well blanced. A light fruity (cherry) character in the finish.

Bottle enjoyed at Mondial 2008. This was not too great a Belgium. The chestnuts were unique and imparted a kind of off-taste like they didn’t belong. Looked good, black with white crown. Licorice in taste I also didn’t like. Medium mouthfeel. Had it 1.5 years later at Cole’s Italian tasting. Here it was a liquor sipper.

Bottle @ Cole’s Italian Beer Tasting. Rich amber body, no head. nose is honey, malts, some alcohol, dried fruits, a little clay, smoke. Flavor is rich malt, honey, a bit of fruity bitterness. Slight astringency I that reminds me of peanut skins.

BCTC. Pours a deep brown with a small white head. Aroma is malt and chestnuts, almost like chestnut puree. Flavor follows the aromas mostly. Smooth and tasty. Very neat.

A clear brown ale with a thin off white head. A sweet caramel malt aroma, nutty with fruity esters. In mouth, a good nutty ale with treacle notes, woody, veering on dubbel. A pleasant and rich brown ale. Bottle at Mondiale 2009.
