Beerlando (1563), Orlando, Florida, USA Oct 9, 2008 Updated: Oct 10, 2008 Pours slightly hazy and orange-amber in color. A foamy, off-white head settles to a thin blanket, scant traces of jagged line lace marking the glass. The aroma is very herbal, notes of coriander, dried flower petals, cinnamon, and ginger all showing through. There’s a lightly spicy pepper note in there as well, further livening what would otherwise be a rather boring candy sugar malt base. The flavor is a bit more muddled, the aforementioned elements sort of melting together into an undistinguished, weird herbal mush. If anything stands out, it is the spicy ginger, and there’s a slightly minty yeast note that emerges as well. The mouthfeel is on the thin side for such a big beer, but the carbonation is moderate and there’s hardly any alcohol detectable, which lends drinkabilty. This isn’t really my cup of tea, but it is interesting and certainly worth a try.
Ungstrup (11930), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jan 4, 2009 Bottled. An unclear orange-brown beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of spices and caramel as well as a light touch of vegetables, leading to a dry and slightly bitter finish. beastiefan2k (1248), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Jan 2, 2009 Tap @ Waterfront Alehouse in an Arcadia goblet. I should have been forewarned because I seem to usually dislike anything that has anything to do with Arcadia beers. It wasn’t cheap either but so is the bottle. It comes to the table with no head or lacing, looks completely flat. Color is ruby brown, and murky with little clarity. Aroma is overripe fruits and overly moldy and musty. Spices not really coming through. Taste is spoiled tropical fruits and spoiled apples. Its also undercarbonated. Not feeling it, the keg may be bad because I have had in the bottles and I remember it being better. The spices don’t really come through but how does one mishandle a keg. Will need to retry if it ever comes around in bottles, too expensive just to go out and buy for myself. cheeta (734), Langå, Denmark Dec 9, 2008 Moderate malty aroma with mixed flowers.
